Xiupaaau | 3 comments I don't abandon it but I would just read as fast as I can to finish the book

message 257: by Michelle (new)

message 258: by Mia (new)

Mia Ashley | 9 comments Depends on how much I hate it, do I hate it because its soon bad or do I hate it but kinda love that im hating it. Those are the things i decide before putting a book down permanently.

Lia (cinderellie) | 20 comments I'm currently reading the Hurricane Wars, and it isn't that I don't like the story, I just can't get into it. I am going to continue the story, but it takes more effort than I expected.

Faatimah | 8 comments most of time I continue but if I really don't like it I won't finish it

message 269: by Circa24 (new)

Circa24 Circa24 | 32 comments It depends on the book. For example, I kept reading "Game of Thrones" until halfway through the third book, trying to figure out why everybody seemed to like it so much. At that point, I regretted investing the time that I'd never get back and stopped. I really wanted to like it and relate to all the cultural references, but I just couldn't do it.

There have been other books, that have gotten off to a slow start but have picked up after the first few pages, like Jennet Winterston's "Stone Gods," and Kazuo Ishiguro's "Never Let Me Go." and others I've just put down after the first few paragraphs. These gems encourage me to keep reading. Though there are books where I haven't been able to get past the first page or two.

message 270: by Ana (new)

Ana | 2 comments I abandon it and read the reviews with spoliers and other people opinion to know how the book evolved
I have such an extensive want-to-read list that I don't "waste" my time anymore, if I'm not enjoying the story. and that it's the thing, books were not meant for everybody. there is so much variety, that I think we should not get stuck in a story that just doesn't pleasures anymore

message 271: by chloe (new)

chloe | 24 comments DNF all the way, all the time! Unless it’s a funny, “haha” bad read then my curiosity wins and I end up reading it.

message 272: by Susan (new)

Susan Fleming | 4 comments Once i have committed to the read...I push through as I feel it might grasp my attention at some point.

message 273: by Abby💕 (new)

Abby💕 | 17 comments It depends. If I’m completely not understanding it I might just give up, but if I just don’t like it I will finish it

message 274: by Bruna (new)

Bruna Galamba | 45 comments It depends... To be able to read from start to finish, and enjoy a book, you must know what type of books you really like. And even then, the formula doesn't always work. I get surprised all the time!

I like fantasy (dark fantasy and romantasy) the most, so I usually read them all in a few hours. But there are exceptions. Any book by George R.R. Martin is hard to read, mainly because I don't like reading by point-of-view, but I like the story. Same with any J.R.R. Tolkien book, the story is great, it is the writting that is hard to read, even if it is by chapters, that is my prefered form to read in. So I just power through and speed read. Still it takes me a while to finish and I think about giving up everytime, but the plot keeps me going (it's the writting I don't like). On the other hand, I can re-read Harry Potter and Twilight saga in a few hours, because the writting is really smooth and to the point. I can read manga in a few minutes as well.

I know that non-fiction is not my cup of tea. I don't like it. I started reading Anne Frank's diary 3 times in different points of my life, but I never finished. And truth be told, I'm not interested in finishing it, nor will I power through. On the other hand, I read Britney Spears' memoir in a few hours.

I really don't like romance by itself. I don't get the appeal. But I read the Fifty Shades trilogy in days and I liked it. On the other hand, I tried reading Nora Roberts Dream trilogy and I gave up in the first chapters...

Also, I have to read lots of science books because of work. Some I like, some I don't, but I don't have any other choice but to finish.

At the end of the day... it depends! I don't feel bad anymore about not being able to finish a book if it is for leisure. If I don't like anything about it, if it's not speaking to me, I won't read it anymore. There is no reason for me to torture myself with a book that I am not liking, in order to say that I read the book. I prefer to move on to the next, that maybe I will love!

message 275: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 7 comments I will try to carry on reading but if I really struggle with it, I normally find a different book to read then will continue with the book I struggled with. So far I haven't DNF any book, I try not to

Clara 𐙚 🇵🇸 (clara17) | 272 comments I don’t finish it, I don’t wanna get in a reading slump 😅

message 280: by sarah (new)

sarah | 288 comments I abandon it, start something else BUT I read the reviews on the abandoned book find out what other people think and most likely I pick it up again when I'm more interested in trying again. Time is pre precious gotta read what you really like and enjoy what you read otherwise you may get into a slump and a abandon READING altogether.

message 281: by Evangelina (new)

Evangelina | 3 comments I will try to keep reading the book, just because I at least wanna see if it is gonna get better, but if the book is just boring me to death, I’m gonna have to DNF it, sadly.

message 282: by Aoife (new)

Aoife Stone (aoifestone) it really depends, If it's a predictable ending or just awful I'll put it down but if I see that it has the chance of getting better I'll continue to read it <3

Emma | 112 comments Not usually, but I did a while ago with Six of Crows. I just didn't really like it, and I wanted to read Emma instead, so... dropped.

message 284: by Mood (new)

Mood Reader (simplymoodreading) | 6 comments I say, if you are not enjoying it, DNF. Your TBR pile is way to big to waste time on a book you do not enjoy. Skip to the next one!

message 285: by Rim_reads (new)

Rim_reads | 80 comments Depends..sometimes the story is too dragging to carry on. Then I abandon

I can't do that, curiosity makes me continue, but of course at a higher speed

• honeztly.quiescentt • | 25 comments Depends. If it’s because it’s boring, I’ll try to struggle through it. If it’s because it makes me mad and annoyed, I have a tendency to DNF it. *cough* *cough* the elite *cough* *cough* The one *cough* *cough*

message 289: by Raymond (new)

Raymond | 17 comments I also HATE to quit a book - but sometimes I do, rare, more because of other 'life stuff.' I always try to go back to a book that I had to put down - and complete it. I am very often successful - but not always. I am finding that 3 book clubs is simply too many for me, and, I am not reading what I want to read, too often. Any ideas / thoughts on managing this? I love the clubs, the socialization, but...................

do you ever listen to books on CD or some other audio format? That helps me get an extra book in easily:)

Sam | 45 comments Currently reading one like this!! I can’t leave a book half read it messes with my head more than it being bad read, so I just take my time with it and try to finish it at some point haha

message 293: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly Breece | 1 comments I try to finish every book, but if the editing or premise is so awful that it can't be overlooked, I've been known not to finish. Typically, this happens with "hmm, that might be interesting" in KU selections or if I am trying to find a new author. But before I completely give up, I'll look at the reviews and see if my concerns are the general consensus or a me thing.

✨• r e a g a n •✨ | 38 comments I tend to just stop reading it, cause I’m not reading books I don’t like, it’s a waste of time

message 295: by vivxreads (new)

vivxreads | 65 comments continue it just to write a comment on Goodreads about it

message 296: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Emma Robins (kaylarobins) | 63 comments @Bruna Galamba it's true, but it's hard for me to decide which is my favorite genre.
And for this reason I try all the books I can get my hands on.
And automatically, I find myself unable to put the book down because of my morbid curiosity.

˚₊‧꒰ა Naomi ໒꒱ ‧₊˚ | 48 comments If the book is so horribly done with cringey talkings and bad writing, then I'm ditching. But if it is somewhat okay but I still hate it, then I'll continue but I'll skip like Flash lol

Idk why but I have a hard time DNF’ing a book I’d rather just read the entire thing & say I didn’t like it and why.

message 300: by Barb (new)

Barb I try not to DNF, BUT I'm old and there's not enough time to read something incredibly boring. I read for fun.
