Let's say you don't like the book you are reading!!! Do you abandon that book or continue out of curiosity?

There have been other books, that have gotten off to a slow start but have picked up after the first few pages, like Jennet Winterston's "Stone Gods," and Kazuo Ishiguro's "Never Let Me Go." and others I've just put down after the first few paragraphs. These gems encourage me to keep reading. Though there are books where I haven't been able to get past the first page or two.

I have such an extensive want-to-read list that I don't "waste" my time anymore, if I'm not enjoying the story. and that it's the thing, books were not meant for everybody. there is so much variety, that I think we should not get stuck in a story that just doesn't pleasures anymore

I like fantasy (dark fantasy and romantasy) the most, so I usually read them all in a few hours. But there are exceptions. Any book by George R.R. Martin is hard to read, mainly because I don't like reading by point-of-view, but I like the story. Same with any J.R.R. Tolkien book, the story is great, it is the writting that is hard to read, even if it is by chapters, that is my prefered form to read in. So I just power through and speed read. Still it takes me a while to finish and I think about giving up everytime, but the plot keeps me going (it's the writting I don't like). On the other hand, I can re-read Harry Potter and Twilight saga in a few hours, because the writting is really smooth and to the point. I can read manga in a few minutes as well.
I know that non-fiction is not my cup of tea. I don't like it. I started reading Anne Frank's diary 3 times in different points of my life, but I never finished. And truth be told, I'm not interested in finishing it, nor will I power through. On the other hand, I read Britney Spears' memoir in a few hours.
I really don't like romance by itself. I don't get the appeal. But I read the Fifty Shades trilogy in days and I liked it. On the other hand, I tried reading Nora Roberts Dream trilogy and I gave up in the first chapters...
Also, I have to read lots of science books because of work. Some I like, some I don't, but I don't have any other choice but to finish.
At the end of the day... it depends! I don't feel bad anymore about not being able to finish a book if it is for leisure. If I don't like anything about it, if it's not speaking to me, I won't read it anymore. There is no reason for me to torture myself with a book that I am not liking, in order to say that I read the book. I prefer to move on to the next, that maybe I will love!

do you ever listen to books on CD or some other audio format? That helps me get an extra book in easily:)

And for this reason I try all the books I can get my hands on.
And automatically, I find myself unable to put the book down because of my morbid curiosity.

Idk why but I have a hard time DNF’ing a book I’d rather just read the entire thing & say I didn’t like it and why.
