Kar I'll abandon it for oike a month

message 152: by Lauren ♡︎ (new)

Lauren ♡︎ | 17 comments I absolutely never DNF a book. I should really but I just can't.

I feel the same way. I've only DNF maybe three times ever, at most. I try to be really selective when picking a book - makes it unlikely I'll not make it to the end.

Sarah Gevaras | 1 comments This is where I’m at, to keep going or to start a new book. I’m currently reading grave expectations and it’s not terrible but it’s not adhd friendly it’s too detailed and I’m supposed to keep track of too many characters. I read reviews and it’s supposed to get better towards the end so I’m trudging through it, waiting for it to take off but I am not excited to get back to my book. It’s one where I find myself rereading the same sentence over and over I’m just not loving it, but I don’t want to miss out on it either.

That's a tough spot to be in. How many pages to go? If it's hundreds...whew, that's a hard choice. Depends how far you're in, too. After a 100 pages deep, you may just have to slog through it, and if it never gets better, give it a weak review here on Goodreads when you're done and move on. :-)

message 156: by Aya ᥫ᭡ (new)

Aya ᥫ᭡ (cherryreads03) | 1 comments It usually depends. If it's nothing special then I just drop it. But I hate most dark romances I read and most of the time I end up reading the whole thing just to see how much more sick and twisted things can get

message 157: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Bethany Boulaouden (moash06) | 7 comments I had to learn to DNF. I noticed I was getting anxious when choosing my next read. I didn't want to get trapped in a book I didn't like or in a genre I just found I wasn't in the mood for. But then I realized no one was forcing me to finish. It's funny how we make up rules for ourselves. Now I can set aside a book to come to later or put one down and walk away.

message 158: by Kindle Jenner (new)

Kindle Jenner | 90 comments Gots to see it through my boy. I may abandon the series but I’ll always finish the book I’m reading.

(Okay I did dnf Zodiac Academy but in my defense wtf was that)

message 159: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (brittanybooksit) my book club has a saying "there are no book police" because it was killing me to NOT finish a book I started but at this point in life.... why force myself to finish anything we aren't interested in?

message 160: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Emma Robins (kaylarobins) | 63 comments @Brittany you're right, but curiosity is killing me.
I skip the boring passages just to get the story.

message 161: by Jane (new)

Jane Fudger | 44 comments If i feel a book is not going to improve or it irritates me I will abandon it after a few chapters

message 162: by Khalid (new)

Khalid Hajeri (hajeri) | 21 comments I try to continue reading such a book to see if there is any redeeming quality found. If not, the I simply give it a 1 star out of 5 with my own thoughts on why it was bad

message 163: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Williams (victoriawilliams) | 27 comments I read to the end,but I alternate with another book...something keeps me from abandoning it.:)
Great question, Ms. Kayla Emma Robins!
Thank you! ✨

message 164: by NomadicReader (new)

NomadicReader I usually continue out of curiosity, but I am not opposed to abandoning a book if I just cannot read it.

message 165: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 2 comments I have to finish a book! There are a few I had to power through because they did not interest me.

message 166: by Heather (new)

Heather Mynx (starrymynx) | 1 comments I've never completely abandoned a book. I might take a break from it and read something else (I'm usually reading 2-3 books at the same time) but it'll eventually get finished.

message 167: by karissa m (new)

karissa m | 139 comments Depends... if I was recommended or gifted that book I usually finish it because I feel bad about not finishing it but if I pick it out myself or it's from the library then I usually just DNF it.

message 168: by Heather (new)

Heather Lynn | 8 comments I abandoned People We Meet On Vacation. I still wonder if I should of finished it...

message 169: by Mrs (new)

Mrs | 7 comments If I don't like the writing style or characters in the first couple of chapters I will DNF. It doesn't happen often. I read for fun as a hobby not a job so forcing myself to finish a book that I don't like is counterintuitive to my goal.

message 170: by Loves2 (new)

Loves2 Read so if it's an audio book, I'll continue reading. If I'm over 40%, I'll just speed up the reading. if it's an actual book I'm reading, if I'm over 40%, I'll see if I can find the audio book version. under 40% means I just can't, or the book was very different from what I wanted, and I won't finish it.

message 171: by Sakis (new)

Sakis | 3 comments I continue it to the end in order to gather every possible evidence for my 1/5 review haha!

message 172: by Joicy (new)

Joicy | 73 comments Continue to see if it gets better ...

message 173: by Bea (new)

Bea (hellomissbea) I skim read. I see if there's anything interesting that would happen.

message 174: by Thefemalearrow (new)

Thefemalearrow | 21 comments Depends if I think it has potential

Sandysbookaday (taking a step back for a while) (sandyj21) Thefemalearrow wrote: "Depends if I think it has potential"

I agree.

message 176: by Nets (new)

Nets | 4 comments For the first time in a long time I abandoned a book midway. It was too horrible to waste my time. I actually need to drop it off at one of those free library stands.

message 177: by Ryebread (new)

Ryebread For me it depends on how bad it really is?

message 178: by Shipra (new)

Shipra Rathi (shiprarathi) | 34 comments i abandon it, but then I feel guilty, and it's like my task to complete that book so I can feel free. Otherwise, I keep feeling that I've a lot to do, so completing the book I don't like but I have, especially in paperback, feels like a task to me.

message 179: by Jill (new)

Jill Bautista | 28 comments Honestly, I'll continue a book, because, who knows it might get interesting later on in the story.

message 180: by Skila (new)

Skila | 7 comments I end up ditching it and then coming back a few months later when I feel absolutely bored and decide on impulse to read it.

message 181: by Tanja (new)

Tanja | 315 comments Fighting my way through it. Especially when I spent money on that book

message 182: by Lexi (new)

Lexi (lexi_gambrill) I give a book 7 Chpts to catch my attention. If it doesn’t then I will skim it just to see how it will end and then move on to the next.

message 183: by Aly (new)

Aly (lyanarty) | 42 comments I go through a couple chapters and if its still not getting my attention i just drop it and probably to never pick it up again😅

message 184: by Abbie (new)

Abbie (abbiegrace) Depends on if I’ve read things by that author before, who recommended it, etc. a lot of the time I’ll skim through to see if it gets better, and just see the outcome. But if it’s a new-to-me author or no one recommended it then I’ll just call it a day lol.

message 185: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Nittner | 2 comments I don’t like dnfing books so I’d probably just listen to the audio to power through!!

message 186: by Lynn (new)

Lynn the Reader | 3 comments I tend to finish the book out of curiosity. It's a sickness ;)

message 187: by JoNelle (new)

JoNelle Holland | 27 comments Usually I abandon them. I'm not going to read a book I don't like or that doesn't keep me interested

message 188: by Hallïday (new)

Hallïday Story Belle Cara Bellwood-Conte | 28 comments I'd definitely DNF it

message 189: by Kristin ❀ (new)

Kristin ❀ (kristinproskow) I would abandon. because there are honestly so many books in the world, it's already impossible to read them all so why spend that time reading a book you're not into?

message 190: by Yvonne (new)

Yvonne Hop | 3 comments Speed read unless it’s way too long.

message 191: by Maggie (new)

Maggie Miller (magsmagicalbooks) I try to make it to 50% before I give up. Usually by that point I can justify finishing it. I've DNF'd less than 5 books, so it has to be really bad for me to do so.

message 192: by Elythrim (new)

Elythrim I used to finish them but now I have so many books I want to read that I'd rather just DNF them and not waste my time. Only the ones that I can't stand though

message 193: by Maia (new)

Maia Matson (maiamatson) | 77 comments depends hate reading can sometimes be enjoyable however I have no shame DNFing a bad read.

message 194: by Emily (new)

Emily I mostly suffer through it because I hate to leave anything unfinished but if a book is genuinely terrible I will abandon it. I’ve only ever abandoned two books though.

message 195: by Bellaaa !! (new)

Bellaaa !! I DNF it lol. I have better books to read that are waiting for me and I won't waste my time on this one

message 196: by Rae (new)

Rae | 2 comments It depends on how far into it I get! If I hate it immediately, I will quit early on. If I have already made it halfway and get bored, I will finish it in hopes something crazy happens and changes my mind.

message 197: by cherrybomb (new)

cherrybomb | 4 comments Just got to know next book is releasing so, next one might be good?
Speed read it.
Complete it😭

message 198: by Charlene (new)

Charlene Williams | 2 comments If it doesn't grab in the first 50 pages I abandon it. There are too many other great books out there. I can't say I abandon it completely, though. Sometimes you need to be in the right frame of mind for certain books so I put them back on the shelf and give them another shot at a later date.

message 199: by Noorj (new)

Noorj (noorywrnr) | 43 comments Not out of curiosity there is nothing curious about it it's just so I don't dfn it

message 200: by [deleted user] (new)
