Jere II (jerefoley) | 8 comments I recently had a google alert that leads to a seemingly ever-shifting forum thread about my novel. By shifting, I mean the first time I followed the link (on my phone) it was a comic book forum. Then later from my iPad it was some sort of Japanese-pop-YA forum. Getting worried, I fired up my desktop to investigate on a non-mobile browser and it comes up as a generic book lovers forum. Same alert link, different skin each time.

Regardless of the wrapper, the first post is invariably a variation on "I saw Slumberscythe by Jere Foley and I really need it but I'm strapped-for-cash/a-poor-student/at-my-budget-limit. Does anyone know where I can download it for free?"

In the comments that follow, somebody will have a negative review, somebody will give a positive review, and somebody always talks about the glories of using BookLibrary. On occasion that will be followed by somebody admonishing piracy (thankfully).

The Google alert identifies ps3pay.com as the originator of the post.

My question for the group - is this anything I need to worry about? It feels like a load of planted BS... But I still worry.

Christina McMullen (cmcmullen) Given that I see nothing when I Google this, you should be okay. I would caution against following links like this as it is more likely a phishing scam that is meant to make you think your book is being talked about.

Jere II (jerefoley) | 8 comments That was my thought at first, but setting up "dummy" forums seems a lot of work for phishing... and they didn't have a call to action. Unless they expected me to sign up or something.

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 2491 comments I got these a long time ago from google search. The search that sends you email as soon as someone is supposed to talk about you or your book.

If I remember right, each time I refreshed the page it was the same people talking but about something different.

I say, don't worry about them, if we're talking about the same search engine/report thingy, just flag it as irrelevant. They will bug someone else.

I believe they are using the same program that generates your name (or email) in bulk mail.

Not necessarily. It's as simple as writing code that pulls down info from the internet and fills in the blanks. When you go to the site, that's where you run the risk of picking up malware.

Brian (BrianFerriskindleauthor) | 22 comments Good day, I am kindle author brian Ferris and I ran in to the same booklibrary issue, I investigated the sites in question and yes pdf copies are downloaded but think of them as advertisement. I don't know how many pdf copies of my kindle books were downloaded; but I know they're popular as heck and assume that if pdf copy is poorer to read thank kindle copy then the exposure will help sales on kindle. Amazon is not at fault, it is google library, which scans books and shares pdf copies to other libraries such as public domain sites like Booklibrary. I would rather have pdf copy fans generating fanfare; I could not afford to pay a penny a click for everyone who clicked on my thirty-six kindle books.

Jere II (jerefoley) | 8 comments Thank you Brian... I just try to stay on top of when the world's taking advantage and when it's actually helping. I haven't seen a single sale come from anything I can attribute to this problem, and it's tough to tell how rampant piracy is!

Brian (BrianFerriskindleauthor) | 22 comments You're welcome, to sooth worries even more though, ninety percent of pdf download sites require personal info and charge for that while only downloading partial pdf epub copies to the downloading party. I dropped my prices for my kindle books from $9.99 to $2.99 to combat Booklibrary's seventy pence and hope it makes a big difference at the bookshelf. I know it will I will even hold penny sales if that is what it takes. ebook users in forums like openmamba, CBR General ebooks, kuforum uk,cre8tesite forum, want cheap pricing so I'll give in and give it to them it will increase sales. Have a good day.
