Amanda’s counting the days 🐾 (ajosephine) | 30 comments Atonement by Ian McEwan - I love the book, but the entire middle part during the war is waaaay too long and unnecessarily descriptive. The movie keeps things moving, obviously.

M. Langlinais (mpepperlanglinais) I didn't care for the novel "Gone Girl" but I liked the movie.

Pamela | 10 comments I love the Practical Magic movie but did not care as much for the book. It did lead me to Alice Hoffman. Her subsequent books about the Owens family have been great. I enjoyed them and believe they could be good movies.

I had to force myself to finish that book and have avoided reading Ms Flynn ever since. I will give the movie a chance based on your post. I didn't watch the movie because I disliked all the characters in the book. I was once lambasted on Goodreads when I said I could not relate to the book. The poster accused me of preferring boring Agatha Christie. What could I say. That's a correct statement.

That's just rude of whoever did that. Goodreads is supposed to be a place where readers can offer their honest opinions to other readers. I just don't get going off on a reader because they didn't like a book you loved.

Dimi Tsioubris Coppola's Dracula for me is better than the book

Honestly, the way it read, I thought it was the author, publisher or friend of either.

Well that sucks. I have author friends who would never do that nor would I do it on their behalf but I know what you mean, there are some who do. Not cool IMO.

My husband and I loved the series. I haven't read the book but am tempted. Must be Crowley tempting me.

Cottonball | 1 comments 100% agreement on Jaws! I went to Martha's Vineyard to see some of the filming locations.

Also, "2001: A Space Odyssey". The visuals in the film are outstanding, and still hold up today. Granted, the book is sort of a novelization, but I'll let that slide. :-)

Sam | 45 comments Normal people and Me before you, both such great adaptations but personally didn’t enjoy the books as much

message 122: by roguereader (new)

roguereader | 102 comments a lot of the fantasy because of the special effects

message 123: by Khalid (new)

Khalid Hajeri (hajeri) | 21 comments The film "Soylent Green" was superior to the book it was adapted from (the book is called "Make Room! Make Room!" by Harry Harrison)

message 124: by Madison (new)

Madison Reynolds | 1 comments I personally preferred the movie for “The Longest Ride” by Nicolas Sparks over the book.

message 125: by Emma (new)

Emma | 112 comments I don’t know about better, but the 2020 Emma with Anya Taylor Joy is phenomenal. It’s just as good as the book, and definitely the best Austen adaptation :).

message 126: by Maia (new)

Maia Matson (maiamatson) | 77 comments I just watched the movie for Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. It was so good, and stayed so true to the source material. I definitely love the book. but the movie did a really good job portraying their beautiful love story, honestly staying true to the characters.

message 138: by Susan (last edited Jan 20, 2024 08:19AM) (new)

Susan Stimmel (suzestimmel) | 29 comments TLOTR hands down...the books dragged. Forrest Gump was also better as a film and Tom Hanks nailed the character. I wish they would a film sequel to follow the books though. The sequel Gump & Co. was funny as heck!
