Marc | 26 comments The Green Mile was an emotional roller-coaster movie but l felt the book was stilted and a little turgid prose-wise. The fact that l read it in its original form as a 6 part serialisation separated l think by a month for each subsequent part, made it hard for me to keep the thread. I read it again when it was re-issued as a whole volume and it was slightly better, but the punch of the film was still lacking imo. The Shawshank Redemption was a brilliant film too, but its source material was a mete short novella, and was fleshed out wonderfully by the scriptwriters into the classic King adaptation we all know and love. Probably the best of his oeuvre.

On the other side of the coin, Apt Pupil was a horrendous film but the short story was among my favourites of King's short tales. It has a menace that the film lacked. I don't know if it was the fault of the actors or the scriptwriters, but it failed on all levels to convey even 1 tenth of the tension the book had. Kings' books are either hit or miss when it comes to adaptions though, don't you think?

Circa24 Circa24 | 32 comments Many adaptations of Philip Dick's Novels. The books were great, but the adaptations, including Man in the High Castle, Minority Report, and Bladerunner, took the stories and made phenomenal adaptations.

Anjalijpk | 59 comments Actually there are many books that when adapted to series/movies, it become more better. As per me,
1.Purple hearts,
2.The Vow,
3.Love Rosie,
4.A walk to remember,
5.The Summer I turned pretty,
6.The viscount who loved me,
7.Charlie & the chocolate factory,
8.The last song,
9. Kissing Booth,
10.Thirteen reasons why
11.Me before you etc.
After seeing the trailer of 'All the light we can't see', I hope it will be better than the book. The book is a bit boring.

FG | 56 comments Lord of the Rings.

I had to slog thru some parts of the books. There was just so much extraneous and unnecessary material that it often dragged. The story itself was excellent. The telling wasn't always.

I thought the movies did a great job of pulling out the best parts and condensing it into a great story. It cut out extra material that went nowhere, connected storylines together and made it much easier and enjoyable experiences. Even though they're some of the longest movies ever. They were great.

Until the very end- I could have done without the slo-mo Hobbits reunion in bed.

Circa24 Circa24 | 32 comments Sandra wrote: "The Handmaid’s Tale series was actually better than the book. (But I loved the sequel “The testaments”)" I think the series successfully builds on the book for three reasons. First, Margret Atwood was heavily involved in the series, helping it stay true to her original content through the first season, though she does update the tech from the 1980s and changes the fate of the commander (a bit). (She appears in the background as one of the Aunts in an episode in the first season.) Second, the subsequent seasons extend the action beyond the end of the original book, explaining what happens to June next. And third, it acts as a bridge to "Testaments." I understand that before the pandemic hit, they were preparing to begin some of the character transformations and introduce the Pearl Girls. This combination of media, the book and television series, has been a brilliant melding and may have given Atwood, a woman whom I admire for many reasons, a bridge to create Testaments without the jarring changes and bogged-down details she would otherwise have needed.

Georgina Hynd | 9 comments The Notebook - that book was just awful.
Silence of the Lambs is a magnificent movie - I didn't find the book worse, I found it enhanced the movie by delving deeper into the personality of the characters. For me they worked well together.

Lyndsie | 11 comments Honestly? The Hunger Games movies. I found Katniss in the books to be the most annoying main character in possibly any book I've ever read. In the movies, you're not constantly in her head so she was a lot more bearable as a character.

I saw the film and read the book. Personally, I liked both. Jodie Foster, Anthony Hopkins, and Ted Levine brought their characters to life. Again with the prequel, "The Red Dragon," I enjoyed both. However, I thought the movie of "Hannibal" butchered the book (pun intended). The book gave so many insights into the character that were just lost in the movie.
