A collection of typically depressing short stories about Ireland that revolve around themes of financial struggle, sin, and guilt (amongst others). One of the stories utilizes an interweaving imagery of a pigeon really effectively to give the idea of the scavenging life. This was honestly the part that was most memorable for me.
I didn't hate this book, but it wasn't a showstopper for me either. Another review I read described the characters as caricatures, which well, I wouldn't go that far, but it isn't totally unfair either.

I gave it 3 stars
