Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, another 5am wake up, but able to have a drink and another 1.5 hour sleep. I'd told one of my crafter friends about Lucy, she got me a nice plant that I've put on the windowsill. She also had some crocheted pumpkins, one was a dusky pink colour with a cat face, I bought it and I've had it on my knee stroking it which has been nice. I got lots of cuddle from her long hair chihuahua. There was a local animal sanctuary with some animals, so have met a kitten, hedgehog, snake, tortoise and 2 lizards, so glad i went. There were 2 cake stalls, but I was good, one did sell Lucy's favourite, lemon drizzle cake, think it'll be a while before i buy that. Did well at the craft fair, would do that again.

They are semi feral Alicia, but more feral, can't touch either of them. I adopted them years ago, when i stopped volunteering for the rescue. Sorry to hear about your daughters cat

Carol Dobson | 689 comments A Devon mizzle here, misty and slight rain. Have moved into little bedroom which is so stacked up with bits and pieces I can hardly get in the door but the other two bedrooms are neat and tidy after several days work as am expecting daughter and grandchildren. Husband has a hospital bed in the dining room as it is on the ground floor near to a bathroom. Having a rest now from all the cleaning and am on the computer.

That must be hard, especially now. I'm sorry they aren't capable of changing more.

Have a wonderful visit. Best to your husband.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, another bad night sleep, i always knew this was going to be an issue when I lost Lucy, i slept better with her on the bed. Was out with a colleague today, didn't quite go to plan! I had an early finish as i was so tired. Heavy rain after work, so waited till it was light rain and just went to Sainsbury's for milk.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4890 comments Thinking of you - everything is so different. Give yourself time, and take care of yourself extra.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, work has been hard this week with colleague leaving, they've managed to find a part time person to help us, but she's needed training and manager has had lots of meetings so I've been spending most of the day doing that so we are behind, especially as yesterday loads of urgent things cropped up - at one point i had 3 people queuing to talk to me! The girls have been a bit braver, Coco has come halfway in my room tonight, then Chanel popped her head round. I haven't sat downstairs with them loose yet, though Chanel has been on the windowsill and let me sit on the sofa while the kettle has boiled. I have wondered about their extra freedom with a new cat.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4890 comments I'm glad you've seen more of the girls - the dynamics are different now, and it's good if that works in your favour.

Change at home AND at work at the same time is a lot to deal with. Hope it distracts you in a positive way.

message 1909: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 689 comments Yes, I am also glad that you have seen more of the girls, Desley. They might become quite a lot braver.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, rubbish night sleep and busy day at work, which felt tougher being tired. Went to shops after work, Sainsbury's actually had a vegan Xmas sandwich reduced, but couldn't bring myself to buy it, luckily got a salad instead, i definitely haven't been eating enough veg. Did end up with a reduced sweet potato and microwave veg for tea! The girls do seem to like coming out every night, last time i tried they freaked out, so it was every other night. When I'm up in the middle of the night, they are often in their room

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, rubbish night sleep, was feeling tired and emotional, got to work and someone was asking questions before I'd got my coat off, then someone rang before I'd finished logging on to the system I needed to answer, before manager rang to add more on my to do list, had a little meltdown! Had to man a stall for a couple of hours, could have done without that! Finished late, and decided to treat myself to mushroom foo yung, Chinese was one of Lucy's favourites, so bittersweet. Couldn't go to usual place, so tried somewhere new, it was nice and I'd go again but more expensive than it used to be! Having an early night

message 1912: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4890 comments Sharing Chinese food must have been fun. That'll be a good memory when you think of the favorites.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, slept till about 4.30, was able to make a cup of tea and get back to sleep till 9.30, as i was waking up it felt like a cat was moving from the windowsill to the bed, but there wasn't. Had my flu jab this morning, managed to get a reduced pizza frkm coop (eating way too much pizza!), then took cardboard and Lucy's trays to the tip, had a little moment. Went to retail park for a few bits, was odd not checking the pet food aisle or pets at home. Decided to get the new black forest hot choc from Costa. Have done a little bit of housework but still quite tired. The girls were briefly both in my room, think thats a first. May have also treated myself to nail varnishes to cheer myself up

Well, i had to stop eating chinese food for a while when i first got Lucy Alicia, her food aggression was so bad she'd get so worked up wanting it she'd draw blood, even for vegetarian sweetcorn soup!

Chinese food will bring up a lot of bittersweet memories. You two had a great run. She made you a better person. And you were with her the whole rest of her life.

message 1917: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 689 comments Have also been eating a lot of pizza this week as daughter and grandchildren were here and mainly ordered food deliveries. It saved me from cooking and meant I could go out with them.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, had a rubbish night sleep and very confused, i woke up the first time and looked at the alarm clock which i hadn't changed, the second time looked at my fitness tracker which had! The girls also seemed confused, i fed them and tried to go back to sleep but heard the floorboards creaking, Coco was sat in the doorway looking at me, then a few mins later Chanel did the same!
Have been running off less than 5.5 hours sleep. Only did essential housework (don't have as much now), had forgot to get some soup from Sainsbury's yesterday so had to get dressed and go out in the rain. Got round to looking up Lucy's insurance policy details to ask vets to do a claim before i cancel the policy, did write down the details of the pet bereavement helpline, and at least you can cancel online these days.

Thanks guys, even though that set me off again

Carol Dobson | 689 comments Sunny, windy and a bit chilly. Tottered off on walk to the Downs. Family have gone home to Belgium so back to usual routine.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, slept through till 4, which gives a bit more time before the alarm. Was raining when I got up, but dry when i left. Was nearly at work, stationary waiting to turn off a street when someone drove into me! We pulled off the road, checked the cars and barely any damage, maybe a couple more scratches but nothing worth claiming for. Took a pic of her number plate just in case. Was showing colleague new things today and had to help other colleagues so felt a bit pulled, and tomorrow won't be any better! Had nice word game lunch, was joined by someone new. Forgot to say, am feeding neighbours rats, she just has the 2 girls, one nippy and one nice, i got them mixed up last night and was stroking the nippy one, who fortunately has mellowed! Both got stroked today, even though I'm wary of cleaning much!

message 1922: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 689 comments Very fortunate so little damage was done, Desley. It is always a shock though when it happens.
Sunny here again so a lovely end to October before the winter sets in. I usually think of November 5th as being the first really cold day so we will see!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, woke up about 3am overheating as forgot to turn the heated blanket off, and felt a bit out of sorts, a colleague said i didn't look my usual self. Full on day at work and numbers just going up! Different company for word game lunch. Had to do a visit late pm which took till hometime, so popped in Tesco on way home. Got an email from vets saying they had done my claim, then one from PetPlan apologising for not being able to pay out because of excess, but looks like policy is cancelled from Sept. I let the girls out, then decided to make some pudding so was downstairs for a bit, came up and found Chanel on my windowsill, she did hiss and freak out, hope it hasn't affected her confidence.

message 1924: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4890 comments There are cat videos on FB - I always enjoy the ones where someone manages to stay long enough that a kitten becomes tame - but I haven't seen too many with adult cats. Wishing you some success with the girls.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, slept through till 5ish, been quite headachy today and manager rang in sick, so i had to make sure the person we are training had enough work before I went out for a few hours, got back and had lunch, then logged back on to some urgent stuff which meant i didn't have to sit through 2 meetings this pm. Ratty neighbour had messaged at lunch asking if i wanted a natter, so knocked on after work to ask if she wanted to come to the shops with me. She said I'd done a good job with the rats, dont know how, i left the dirty igloo on sofa for her and didn't get round to washing up! She got me a nice cat soft toy, a lovely mug and some chocolate biscuits as a thank you, and did ask questions about what alcohol i like. Both Coco and Chanel were in my room at the same time, Coco sat on the rug but seemed uncomfortable at Chanel being in the doorway, there is hissing and chasing between those 2 more often (started while Lucy was still here), they seem to come and ask for food now.

Its a lot less successful in adults Alicia, it depends if they are just timid or feral, these two are more feral than semi, but enjoy blankets and radiators, they just don't see any need for interaction

message 1926: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4890 comments What happens with Coco and Chanel if food is late? Do they like cat toys? Just curious - I know a lot of older cats get neutered and returned to their habitat here in the States, because of exactly that: they just don't adjust to being house cats, any more than an adult bear could turn into a TV-watching companion.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, woke up at 5ish with a headache. Manager was off sick again and had a 1.5 hour meeting, so very heavy day. Old colleague was in and now we work in different teams, we can have lunch together, so had a nice word game lunch and she made me finish work on time and we walked to our cars together. She got a too good to go bag from Costa, they let her pick her own, so she got me a vegi and vegan sandwich, they are freezable so one in freezer and one for lunch tomorrow. Had an email from PetPlan saying im entitled to a refund, seems too high. Am off work tomorrow, looking forward to it after a heavy week

Normally nothing Alicia, but they've started just sitting in my doorway staring at me. Most feral adult cats are returned here too, i think the rescue got hung up on the description of Coco, I'm not sure Chanel would hsve managed as a feral cat. Chanel plays, there is a cat cube in the front room i have to put back every day!

Carol Dobson | 689 comments Windy here and rain threatening so am avoiding walk. Halloween tonight but have forgotten to buy sweets for children knocking on the door so will have to venture out later.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, slept through till 5ish, got up and made a cup of tea and watched TV in bed, Coco sat in the doorway wondering why they hadn't been given breakfast, then a bit later Chanel came in and sat on the rug, then Coco came in and was rolling around with my hairbrush (both find it fascinating!), didn't stay long, but nice they are choosing to spend time with me. The plan for this morning was to do some housework but couldn't find the motivation so have only done a little bit. Had to get money, so popped out and treated myself to a coffee while out. Massage was interesting, not had a hot stone massage before and parts were uncomfortable, am a bit sore now. Popped into a shop as handbag broke the other day, got a new one plus some other stuff, then popped in morrisons as i like posh yoghurt on Fri and Sat, that was an expensive trip! I need willpower when it comes to candles, coffee and alcohol. Had just finished tea when someone knocked on the door, it was the neighbour i mentioned a few weeks ago who waves at Lucy, she offered me a chocolate and I foolishly said no, she seemed a bit put out. Then she asked where the cat from the windowsill was, so had to tell her, which set me off after closing the door.

message 1931: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4890 comments I think everything can remind you of Lucy now - grief is erratic.

Hugs.

Having to tell someone like that is hard.

The girls are giving you interesting behaviors - that's really nice.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, slept through till 6am, had hairdresser at 8.45, then had just over an hour before C was picking me up, so did a bit of housework. We went for afternoon tea on a narrow boat, it was moored but did move a bit at times. Was a really nice spread, you chose your own sandwich and cake, we had a stand each. They have a neighbourhood cat called Larry, one of the boat owners moved and left him, they feed him and another boat gives him shelter at night, he sat outside our window and stared at ms. We've had a lot of fireworks this evening, poor Chanel flew off the windowsill at the first one.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8057 comments So … Goodreads no longer sends me any updates which is a pain in the arse as it means I only come here when I remember, which is about every two or three weeks.

Desley, I’m so sorry about Lucy. Oh blimey and being run into too. I’m glad the damage was minimal and I hope having the fosters helps rather than making you miss Lucy more. A friend of mine adopted two cats, one was completely feral and ran off the first night, her sister isn’t and is an absolute sweetie.

Everyone, glad all is well. Sorry I’m so crap and only appear sporadically but lack of notifications is the reason. The emails don’t even reach me now. Most weird.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, typically i can now get up later to go to monthly craft fair and i was awake before the alarm. Was a fun craft fair, we did way better than we usually do, A treated me to cake. Did buy myself a nice Tropic foot treatment set. She bought me a lovely necklace for my birthday, its got 3 charms, a rainbow, a pawprint and the letter 'l', with a rainbow bridge card. One of C's presents was a pumpkin burner, was surprised by that, but put birthday cake melt in. Have used my new holographic nail varnishes, they are lovely but more textured than the other ones i own.

Happy birthday to your husband Alicia. Thanks MT, I don't get notifications anymore either.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4890 comments Thanks, Desley.

Come to think of it, I don't get notifications, either - I just make sure I visit every couple of days when I check my author dashboard, too.

message 1936: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 689 comments I also don't get notifications and it seems a definite downgrading of Goodreads.
Windy here so blew the cobwebs away on my walk. The tide quite low and the sea surprisingly calm with the gusting wind.

Jim | 21827 comments For us up here it was distinctly wet!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, was a manic day without manager, was trying to train new colleague, but she doesn't have access to everything yet, then other colleague who is still learning something new had tricky things, so had to keep asking me questions, so at one point it felt like I'd done very little! New colleague was only in till lunch, so blasted through a few things and ended with numbers lower than when I started, so felt better. New colleague is off tomorrow, a manager was checking I'd be OK on my own, but i can get through more without training someone and taking twice as long. Was very wet when I set off, then got very windy this evening. Decided to give half my PetPlan refund to the rescue Lucy was from, in her memory, but struggling with their online platform, so had to message for alternative ways to pay.

message 1939: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 689 comments That is a lovely idea, Desley, to give half the pet plan reimbursement to the rescue Lucy was from.
It started raining on my walk this morning but plodded on enjoying the feel of the elements and came home like a drowned rat.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3787 comments Just a quick visit- today I am celebrating as the sale of my house completed. I have a garage full of stuff to sort through so not exactly straight yet. I treated myself to a hot chocolate and a cheese toastie at a cheese deli after I dropped off the key at the estate agent. And have a graze box from the same place and lemon cheesecake for my tea.

My cats have decided to stop ignoring me and are sleeping on my lap now.

I’m looking at the weather and deciding whether to go walking along the canal at weekend. Gym class in the morning tomorrow and I have a hot stone massage booked for the afternoon.

I don’t get notifications- but I think I might have ticked a box somewhere so as not to get notifications at all. I do try to pop on every couple of days to see what is happening.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, rubbish night sleep. Another manic day, but slightly easier with new colleague off so didn't have to train her on top of urgent stuff coming in. Nice word game lunch but ended up working late
Got something reduced from m and s for tea.

Congrats Janet. Have you had a hot stones massage before? I did misread your message and thought you had a chocolate and cheese toastie!

message 1942: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 689 comments Congrats on sale of house, Janet. I had never heard of a hot stone massage so looked it up. Not sure I would like it.
It has been weather for ducks here but a lull for the moment and am waiting for the coalman to deliver logs and coal. Have been lighting a fire for the last couple of weeks. I know it is not ecologically very friendly, but I do use ecoal (the other sort is illegal now anyway) and I find it extremely cheering in cold dark winter days- it is like having a sun in the sitting room!

message 1943: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4890 comments We got rain last night!

It has been so dry in California, it's a pleasure to wake up to wet streets.

More congratulations on house sale, Janet - that's a worry you can let go of.

Heat is necessary, Carol - first I've heard of ecoal, but I'll assume it's somehow more environmentally friendly.

Thinking of you and the girls, Desley.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, another rubbish night sleep, so been headachy all day, and had a long day at work. Haven't left the house as weather was rubbish. Went to get something from my small freezer for tea and it had switched itself off and defrosted, so had to throw it all away. Felt bad this morning, went to the loo at 6am, Chanel sneaked in my room and i accidentally kicked her going back to bed, then she ran the wrong way so i had to stand and wait for her to stop freaking out.

message 1945: by Jay-me (Janet) (new)

Jay-me (Janet) | 3787 comments I have had hot stones massages before, so can recommend them Carol. It is just like a normal massage but the heat from the stones just makes it feel a little warmer. Apparently I had a lot of tension in my back and shoulders but after the massage I did feel very relaxed. I have booked another massage- just an ordinary massage on my back and shoulders plus a facial for next month.
The cats were both sat with me last evening and seemed relaxed but interested in watching the fireworks in the sky behind the houses across the road. Not like one of my niece’s dogs who is absolutely terrified of the noise of fireworks.
I have a bulky waste collection organised which should give me a little room in the garage to be able to continue sorting stuff in there.
I’m debating whether to go for a canal walk at weekend or to somewhere like Bury Market.
Next week I’m meeting with old work colleagues for coffee and cake (although I will probably have hot chocolate)
I don’t have an open fire or log burner here at my new home (now mine is sold I have arranged to pay my sister and brother for their shares). There is a gas fire in the front room which is fine for the moment. The gas fire that was in the dining room was taken out last year, we were talking about replacing it but haven’t decided what to replace it with. I’m leaning towards something like an electric wood burner effect stove.

I’m awake early and listening to an audiobook- The Attenbury Emeralds. I will have to think about getting up soon - gym class this morning-Stretch and Sculp.

message 1946: by Carol (new)

Carol Dobson | 689 comments Tottered off on usual walk to the coast this morning. I know my route so well I recognise every part of it as an old friend. Then lunch which mainly consisted of heating up Marks and Spencer's shepherd's pie and adding chips (French fries if I'm not mistaken to an American) broccoli and courgette. Am becoming more lazy foodwise. Once I prepared and cooked everything but no longer.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, rubbish night sleep again so tired and headachy. Old colleague treated me to lunch at somewhere i wanted to try, the food was nice (we had soup and sandwich, came with 6 chips!), but limited vegi options so won't be in a rush to go back. Hectic day at work as off tomorrow so did work a bit late, old colleague had a Costa to good tk go bag, they let her take all the sandwiches so she gave me some vegi ones, so me and sis have lunch for tomorrow and will freeze the rest.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12683 comments Evening all, didn't get on yesterday, was off work, got sis to help me clean, did a bit of food shopping on the way back from dropping her off. Then me, A and L went to Manchester to see Five play in concert, was really good. Downside was by the time we got back and I'd had something to eat and drink, it was 1am when I got to sleep, then woke up at 5.30! Couldn't get much more sleep, we had a craft fair today, it was for a local animal sanctuary so took Lucy's leftover renal wet food. The person I've had some rings from was there, i ended up buying 4! Got some carpet freshener and a couple of bits from a stall, and was only going to buy autumn melts, but then realised if i bought the Christmas ones i wanted, i got some free hoover discs. There were 5 stalls all selling various scented things, 1 was really cheap, so we were worried about not doing well, but ended up being our best of the year! No decent cake though, but i have mince pies. Got some bargains from shops on way home, nearly bought more alcohol too! Got an alert that the colour change nail varnishes i wanted the other week were back in stock, so treated myself. We were supposed to be going to a wedding reception for a crafter friend tonight, but we were both too tired
