Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, rubbish night sleep, luckily the only things on today's to do list was 'watch a film, buy books', so we had a lazy morning, i obviously did a couple of chores too, but have only left the house to put the rubbish out, do feel better for chilling. Very windy, have heard some wheely bins blowing over.

Jim | 21809 comments yes the wind did get up, cold and out of the east

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I drove through sleet and snow on Saturday going down to Melrose over Soutra. It's pretty foul here today too - that east wind is fiercely cold.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, at least todays forecast of snow was just rain, though did go over some hills and saw a few white flakes. Had a little trip out with A, we did M and S, Home Bargains and B and M, got a bargain in B and M so was very happy. Back for 1, so have done a mix of tidying ready for tomorrow and relaxing, finished the book i started on Sat and just done a foot mask.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, another rubbish night sleep. Todays day off wasn't very restful but was productive. Sis came to help clean, we went to candle shop first, both got some bargains, i got some melts i hadn't seen the other week. Sis went for decluttering rather than cleaning, was a bit grumpy at one point as im still going to have to do some cleaning, including hoovering the floor again, but glad she pushed me, still a bit more to do in the front room, and she's happy to keep coming back, she's looking forward to the kitchen cupboards! Its energised me a bit to do more before she comes back. Took her for a coffee on the way home, decided that in August, as the kids will be off, we'll just clean that month, then take them all for lunch and somewhere for them to play. We were later than planned so had to take her to pick up niece. Got something posted, then rang dentist, receptionist chuckled while telling me my appointment was on. He had to do moulds of top and bottom, bottom went fine, but different material for top and smell made me gag, they tried three times but then gave up and hoped there was enough! Next app os my next Tue off.

We've got the east wind, and yes, on Saturday here it tasted of snow, but we didn't actually get any

Yes it's strange stuff. The one they have used with me is 'neutral' but I can see where you're coming from with the smell.
What really gets me is the taste of the anaesthetic they use, it's not pleasant

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments It takes a lot of stamina to get dental work done - I hope I'm not postponing things too long just because I can't take the aftermath - visits usually cost me several days of brain fog after.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, as expected, a rubbish night sleep! Not too bad a day at work, had first one to one with new manager, went well, said i was happy to give training a go, but needed more time (not even had the training myself yet!), then old manager was asking about next month! Had an early finish as Lucy needed a medication check for her prescription, she is down to 4.25kg (was 5kg, but before that seemed settled at 5.2kg), i thought she had lost weight but the amount of time i thought she has to find out she'd gained, i dont trust my judgement! Vet wanted to do bloods, she seemed in an OK mood so risked it, but she wouldn't oblige, going to try on my next day off and give her a double dose of gabapentin to try and relax her first, but seeing a nurse, so have doubts. She has completely forgiven me, she raced in the kitchen after me, had some lik e lix from the tube then was excited about tea. Am giving her daily lik e lix and ordered her some different biscuits, no doubt she'll have gained weight by next app!

Yeah, hate the anaesthetic too, I'm fine with needles except dental ones!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Hugs for you and Lucy.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, got woken up by the alarm which is a rarity! Have been a bit sinusy and headachy though. Not too bad a day at work, went to shops and chemist after work, got a reduced sandwich, and bumped into candle shop owner outside new shop, its looking good, he said as they cant have a proper kitchen, it'll just be things like toasties and jacket potatoes and focusing more on desserts, they'll have similar to the other cafe, but more! I like that they do single portion cheesecake and tarts, so jokingly said it won't be any good for my waistline! He told me what brands they use for the vegi bacon and black pudding which was nice of him

Thanks Alicia

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, Lucy woke me up about 1am, so been a bit headachy today. Quite a hectic day at work. Took Lucy's prescription to Boots, just waiting for a text to say its ready. Decided as it was pay day I'd get coffee from somewhere different, went to Dunkin Donuts, more expensive than usual and not that special, they seemed to focus more on chilled drinks. Went to chippy after work, was reminded at vets of one that takes card, was nice.

message 1313: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I've not tried Dunkin Donuts, none near us. Greggs does not bad coffee, but a lot of places that aren't specialist are a bit ordinary
I was talking to somebody who worked in a cafe at Debenhams and he commented that after working in Costa, it was a come down, as they weren't so fixed on high standards. They didn't even get the water to the right temperature.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, had a lazy start to the day, then went to cafe in the park for breakfast, got lucky and had a window seat overlooking the park. Really nice vegi breakfast, thought i had a lot of hash browns at first glance, but I had 2 slices of grilled halloumi, also had sautéed spinach. Needed milk, so went to coop and biught limited edition cherry bakewell cake, it's rather nice. Did a little clean of the bathroom, decluttered and hoovered landing, but when i started on the kitchen my back started complaining, so just swept the floor then relaxed. Pleased with myself though.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments COMPLETELY lost the rest of yesterday (and I don't know how much of today) by having gone to the eye doctor.

The list of steps I have to accomplish to even get to a doctor appointment is daunting, has to be done in order, can't skip steps, and is often so pointless to the results that I have a hard time starting the process.

For example: I made an eye appointment via husband (it was so impossible to get them on the phone that I had him stand there and hand his cellphone to the person behind the counter at one of HIS appointments) BECAUSE I have a double vision problem in my right eye WITHOUT glasses.

I told the nice young doctor this at least three times - she did a regular eye exam anyway, figured a new prescription.

I was exhausted by the time I left - and then realized I had NO idea why I'm having double vision, and NO further appointment!

Makes it REALLY hard to start this stupid process the next time.

It does seem that they've lost the plot

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, Lucy woke me up at 4.50 then again at 6.50. Have had a fairly lazy day, just Sunday chores and washing up, vegan friend popped round late pm to collect her delivery. One of the crafters I've met were advertising new CBD bath melt which was on offer, so have ordered one to try.

Oh no, that's not good Alicia, hope you can get it sorted

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, car said 0 when I left the house this morning and 2 when i came home. Another hectic day at work and still got 2 urgent things to get arranged. There were roadworks on the way home, took about an hour to do a 5 mile journey! Amazon had left a parcel behind my wheely bin, as i picked it up i wondered why I could smell amaretto, my 1l glass bottle had completely smashed! Luckily the bubble wrap had contained the glass but the liquid had leaked out, luckily was just cat food in the box. Took ages to fet a refund sorted. Glad I had some cake left.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, Lucy disturbed me about 5, didn't properly get back to sleep. Frustrating day at work, too many meetings so don't feel I've got through enough. We had a catch-up with old manager and colleague at lunch, which was nice. Went to get Lucy's prescription, they charged £44ish, sure i paid £70ish last year, so that was a bonus. Nipped to m and s after work, got a couple of reductions. And traffic wasnt as bad either.

message 1320: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Are Amazon covering the cost of the broken bottle?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, slept better. Did have a 2 hour meeting this morning though, so don't feel I've done enough and we are going to be short staffed for 8 days, so really need to get on top of stuff. Went to shops after work and got a couple of bargains. Just seen an offer on a nail varnish set, £10 for 10 bottles, do own 4, but 6 for £10 is still good. Don't need more, but been a yough week so thinking i might deserve a treat!

Well, i got a full refund Jim, I've had loads of glass bottles delivered and it was wrapped so not sure oyher than that parcel was delivered by Royal Mail rather than Amazon

Jim | 21809 comments Not bad if you got the money back :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, didn't feel like a good night sleep and felt like we needed to do quite a bit, colleague did well, i ended up with unexpected urgent things, but got a lovely compliment from someone in another team by fiving her a solution and saying it could be done tomorrow when she was thinking it would be next week. I did buy the nail varnishes and went to coffee shop, even though it waa raining. Was dry after work so went to shops.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I’ve been feeling tired over the last few days, busy decluttering, and various other things.
The electrician fitted the wall lights a couple of weeks ago and came back last week to finish the new plug sockets. Now I am waiting to hear if the decorator will start next week or not until the end of March. Then I can have the temporary sockets replaced with the new ones, the electrician said that it was best to wait until the decorator had finished.

My friend’s son helped move the containers of plants including a bay tree.

I’ve also had some more of my furniture moved down and my brother and sister in law came over and helped me with the task of sorting into recycling- donation- keeping.

My next step is sorting through all my books- which ones I can donate and which I have to keep.

It’s been a funny week weatherwise. Yesterday morning was dry and warm whilst the removal men were carrying my furniture from house to van to house. Then the afternoon was cold and wet. This morning it felt like a warm spring day and in the afternoon there was a really heavy downpour.

In the course of sorting stuff and emptying drawers ready for the removal men I found a couple of books of old stamps and some paper money. I will have to find out what to do with them.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, slept through till 5ish, Lucy was very clingy and didn't want me to get up, was half sat up before she got off my arm. Bitty day at work, and something i spent ages sorting this week fell through this pm. Should have had a craft fair tomorrow but A hasn't been well, so she cancelled to rest, so i went to m and s after work for a treat, i did want to go this fair, but really tired and busy week coming up. Needed cat litter, was very impressed that i walked in for one bag of cat litter and that was all i walked out with. Needed a couple of things from Lidl, so went there, then wanted something from Sainsbury's that was on offer, but they'd sold out of the flavour i wanted. Did forget milk, but at least i have a reason to leave the house tomorrow.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Antibiotic finally kicked in and feeling a bit less brain-dead, It's hard to write - or do anything - when less well than usual.

I reloaded most of the information into my brain from my notes, and I'm happy to say I didn't have to go any further back than Feb. 10.

Hard to make progress this way.

Sorry about your craft fair, Desley.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up at 6 wondering if it was Fri or Sat, brain realised i could go back to sleep. Lucy tried getting me up at 7, we had cuddles till 7.30. Felt quite drained, went back to bed, then after an hour tried going back to sleep, apparently had a 50 min nap. It was a sunny morning, so felt like i needed to get out, didn't have much energy though so drove to lake, walked halfway round to cafe, got a ruby rose hot choc, as i walked out, was windy and spitting so went to bird hide to drink it, chatted to a few people, saw spme great crested glebes and cormorants. Shame it was cold, they had liquorice ice cream. Went for milk on the way home and got a reduced salad for lunch. Have done a little bit of housework but my priority was finishing my book.

Glad you are feeling better Alicia, glad you haven't lost too much progress

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, Lucy woke me up about 4am, she was padding my arm but one of her claws was really sharp! Got back to sleep till about 7, felt much better than yesterday. Had a lazy start, been wet and windy, so did my Sunday chores, then after watching a bit of TV, decided to sort out the wax melts, the pile on top of one of the drawers was on the verge of falling over. I did get rid of some, but all 8 drawers are full and have an overflow! I have a few nearly used packs that im going to use first. Forgot to say yesterday, did see start of crocuses/tulips/daffodils, so felt like spring was in the air. Tried my CBD bath melt, turned the bath a lovely colour, and got a nice clean bed to get into.

It was ruby hot chocolate with a shot of rose syrup Jim. I do love watching cormorants, they just push one off a post, then stand with their wings outstretched drying off

message 1330: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Cormorants are fun to watch :-)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I don't think I've seen a cormorant around here, which is strange as there are so many coastal birds. There are plenty of shags though (no sniggering at the back).

Been deleting a few spammers here over the weekend, it's funny how they seem to come in bursts.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, slepth through till 5.30. Hectic day at work and had 2nd probation review this afternoon, went quite well. Had a bit of pins and needles in my foot yesterday, just dismissed it from doing a long walk, but after i got home, it started to feel more like my back, and feeling a bit sick, and tomorrow got training and a 2 hour meeting. My nail varnishes got delivered today, but they put them in my rubbish bin that was practically empty, so had to tip it to get my parcel.

message 1333: by Alicia (last edited Feb 25, 2025 12:19PM) (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Delivered to your rubbish bin? I'd have some feedback to give the sender about that. What if you hadn't noticed?

We're spoiled - 24-hour concierge front desk. We do have to go down to pick up our packages, but they're inside, dry, logged in, and only accessible by signing the log. Very convenient feature of community living.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I’ve had parcels left in the bin- usually one of the recycling bins and a card pushed through the letterbox to let me know. My bins are currently in front of the garage and I move whichever one is for collection to the front of the drive. Today I had the new garage door fitted so the bins will soon be stored inside the garage. I’m thinking of getting a parcel box for any future parcels.
My old boss’s mother had some jigsaw puzzles delivered and left in the bin that was due to be emptied that day.

I have wondered about that. I wonder if some of it is people with multiple accounts being paid to tout stuff.
Whoever is paying them is being cheated.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, woke up at 4am, at 5am decided to go to the loo, but felt really dizzy and stumbled to it! Went back to bed and stayed there a bit longer than usual, did feel lightheaded and sick, but not bad enough to not go to work. Let manager know, she had concerns about me driving 30 mins to where the training was being held, then realised it was standing, so as i wasn't fit for that it was best for me to take the day sick, really didn't want to as we are short staffed and busy, plus i didn't feel ill enough not to work. They want me to help deliver this training but i can't stand for 2 hours, so not sure what will happen. Went back to bed, chilled watching TV but couldn't get back to sleep, then got up at 11.20 as i was starving, which was better than feeling sick. Got bored after that, watched a bit more TV, then did some housework. Then relaxed with a foot mask, face mask and a book. First day I've had off sick since before Covid (though that isnt a good thing, I've gone to work too many days feeling roigh and prolonged things) and it would be during my probation period! Got a message from ratty neighbour, she's had a parcel put in her paper bin, turns out she has some grabbers, i can borrow them whenever i want.

I did give them negative feedback Alicia i knew it was there as they tske a pic of where they leave it.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, struggled to get to sleep, woke up at 4 and decided to go to the bathroom to see if i was dizzy again, that went well, as did showering and washing my hair, so went to work, got asked if i definitely was OK to be there, just felt tired. Manager was in a couple of meetings so wasnt able to help much, a few urgent things came up and had to have a back to work interview. Went to Sainsbury's and managed to get a 50p sandwich for lunch tomorrow, then went to the chippy for tea, needed a sit down after that.

Yes, our bins are fairly waterproof Alicia

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, slept through till 5.30, felt quite tired and headachy today. Sunny day but did have to scrape the car. Day started off OK, got through some of my to do list, had an interesting conversation at lunch with one of the blokes i have lunch with, and we now do a word game together. Afternoon didn't quite go as well. Got home and ratty neighbour was here, but partner hadnt given me enough space! Gave her her parcel, and there was one on my doorstep she'd picked up off my doorstep, had a little chat, she's had a rough month.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, headachy and sinusy today, not a bad day at work though. Annoyed at myself for forgetting to put a washload on before work, might have dried on the line. Went to coffee shop at lunch, got the last stamp on a card for a free drink, so gave it her for a pay it forward, she said my last one got used the other week, a bloke was coppering up and didn't gave enough for a drink and cake, so she told him to use the card I'd left. Asked for a strawberry white hot choc, they have liquid white choc now and curdled, luckily they found some powder. Got a 4 day weekend but a few plans. Found quite a few seasonal wax melts in the kitchen last night, worryingly they aren't from last season.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, had a hairdresser app this morning, she was asking about fairs, told her about the new products and had some hoover discs in my bag, showed them and ended up getting an order for 3 bags of hoover discs, 2 car air freshener and a reed diffuser so table fee for tomorrow is paid. Was there longer than i should have been, but finished my book and started a new one. Had a bit of time before meeting C gor afternoon tea, did some tidying (had already pegged washing out), it was really nice, came home with leftovers. When walking home saw crocuses and pansies

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Left a lot of crocuses and daffodils at our home in New Jersey when we moved - and I miss the vase after vase filled inside the house.

There are some in the facility's gardens around here, but I don't get out much.

All the 'wellness' gurus tell you to go for a walk in a garden as a refresher - but doing that would use up a day's energy for me.

My balcony flowers - Kalanchoes - ARE getting ready to bloom. The almost-open bud stage lasts two months, and the blooms another two. Deep purple/red.

message 1345: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments Crocuses are out here but (the council planted them along the verges at the side of the streets) but daffodils aren't quite in flower

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, our monthly craft fair today, did better than last March, though apart from me buying 2 wax melts for a colleague, we didn't sell any from the pick and mix, but hoover discs were really popular. A gave me 8 leftover honey melts as they aren't staying for spring, i took them and will see if my sis wants half. Decided to get Lucy some chicken, coop had reduced turkey slices and prawns, so she is happy, the girls liked turkey too. Got some reductions for me too. Probably should have done some tidying but just did a washload and finished my book.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I’ve been busy sorting and trying to declutter. I managed to arrange for the council to take some things from here using the bulky waste collection service- bits of carpet and underlay and a couple of furniture items that are a little past it.
The hospice has a furniture shop and they are going to take some other items.

Last week I took my car for its MOT, and had a walk around the park and woodland while waiting. I was sat in the sunshine, enjoying the view, wondering why there were no crocuses in the park when I noticed that the sole was coming off one of my boots.
There is a big Mill Store next to the gym so on Friday I called in on my way to Zumba and bought myself a pair of Pavers boots. There was a 10% off as well due to a sale.

Our garden waste collection starts again this week, so far my bin is half full with the neighbour at the back’s buddleia which has leaned over the fence at the back.

I occasionally have random conversations with my nephew, this weekend it was where do orcs come from.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, doing a double dose of Lucy's gabapentin worked, she didn't react to me shutting the door to get the carrier or walking past her with the carrier, that has never happened! She was quiet in the car too, and allowed them to get enough blood in about 5 mins, asked them to weigh her, she has put on 100g, so hoping that means nothing too serious, but I will have to watch how many treats i give her as that is quite a lot in less than 3 weeks. Did come home and give her prawns though. Had a bit of a wait till A was ready, so did some tidying ready for tomorrow. We did m and s, home bargains and b and m, did buy Lucy more treats. Came home and took some soft plastic to coop, no bargains today. Read a third of a book too. A sold another pack of hoover discs outside her house when she pulled up!
