Progress is slow, but I am going forward, so I'm happy.

Extra writing day has to be a bonus

Several days in a row when I don't have to go or do anything are a big help - what I write is complicated, and I keep having to restart.
It's good to get your necessary jabs out of the way - they do make the flu less virulent if you get it. One more thing off your list!

The weather is moderating here, but things are still wet underfoot

I refused a flu jab many years ago and was ill from Nov to Apr, always have it now

Necessity is the mother of improvisation :-)
It's surprising how often this sort of thing works

But Dave Swarbrick, singer and fiddle player for Fairport Convention, used to recommend port.
Apparently a lot of opera singers take it as well

Ooh, good excuse for Port, i do like that.

In theory you should hold it in your mouth for a while, even gargle with it before swallowing it.

Putting things IN a bin with a lid would keep them dry, but that they call it your 'safe space' - weird!

Also Alicia, I've never set up a safe space with that delivery company! They normally leave either on the doorstep or behind the flowerpot

And it's probably not worth the time to straighten them out. YOUR time.
I'm that way with my medical records. EVERY single time I go to a doctor's appointment, an After Visit Summary appears in my online access - and has things that didn't happen, were not discussed, and I disagree with and never said.
But they have made it almost impossible for ME to correct the records or to get the doctor to amend them - so my medical record is rife with inaccurate, old, and fake 'information' about me.
The only good thing is that most of the time if you end up at a hospital in an emergency, they don't believe anything they read, and do all their own tests, and get it wrong a DIFFERENT way.
Maybe we'll survive anyway.

looks like they're the same the world over!

I've complained about things being inaccurate on my medical records but nothing gets changed

I recently changed doctors from a surgery in the town where I used to work , to one where I live.
The previous surgery was terrible for trying to get appointments, and the one I have moved to was also mum’s doctor and I never had problems getting appointments for her.
I filled in an online application to register and so I have a record of my recent vaccinations and appointments.
But it also says that I am a moderate smoker (10-20 per day) and that I was offered and refused smoking cessation advice. Neither of these are true. I am going to try to get these incorrect facts removed when I change my address with the surgery.
Today I am feeling under the weather with a cold and sore throat.
My cat Barney who had been staying upstairs except when he wanted food has started sitting with me and sleeping on the bed again.

Randomly wrong thing to have on your record Janet. Hope you feel better soon and at least you are getting more Barney cuddles

Aargh! So frustrating - because that's important for anesthesia and for lung diseases and makes doctors look at you funny if you still smoke in this day and age.
I'm starting to think that sending in a summary of what is wrong with the visit notes as soon as I read them is my easy way of getting my words into the record - and not force me to go through their energy-wasting procedure to change things.

But it also says that I am a moderate smoker (10-20 per day) and that I was offered and refused smoking cessation advice. Neither of these are true. I am going to try to get these incorrect facts removed when I change my address with the surgery...."
After sixty years of trying I've finally got them to put in my correct Christian name :-)

My sympathies. My daughter who had pneumonia took forever to get rid of the lingering cough. The first couple of nights she coughed so much she had no voice - so we texted for many hours.
What ended up helping her was cough syrup with codeine in it - which she reserved mostly for sleeping times. Codeine is a good cough suppressant - do you have trouble getting it in your NHS?

Oh, i didnt know that Alicia, I've been takimg cold tablets but my normal painkillers have codeine in them, did take one before as they were closer to me, and going to take an anti inflammatory

Boring but true.

This happened earlier this year, so you could get it from your doctor, or perhaps it's one of the things a chemist can now do a prescription for?
When I was a child I had a lot of problems with coughing and it keeping me awake. The doctor mixed some sort of syrup for me and even when he retired, I got a bit bottle of it that lasted well over a decade. Then, some years later I went with what was left in the bottle and asked the chemist if he could make me up some more.
He cautiously sniffed the bottle and commented, "Not if we both want to stay out of jail." :-)

It was preventive gold.
I'm very cautious with narcotics, but sometimes you need them.

Oh for the days where medical people would make up cough medication, before my time but the person who used to own the chemist in my village was known for that!

Neither of us had been sick in ages. We don't get out of the apartment much, which helps.

Oh no, fingers crossed it clears quickly and you don't get it

I must admit I cannot see why charity stalls sell so much cheaper than others. After all they're trying to raise money for a charity, not shovel stock out of the door quickly

I suppose if they've had things donated, its all profit and our cheapest charity shop is the most popular, they've had to move as they outgrew the first building! But surely making that bit more isn't a bad thing.

Thanks, Jim. It's involved to get Paxlovid, so I'm hoping I don't need to at all. He has it, has taken his first two pills.
We don't have a car - he biked to the pharmacy. Stubborn man. He then said, after one trip, that he now understands 'post-exertional malaise', one of the worst ME/CFS symptoms - he STILL has no clue, because it can last for days. But I restrained myself, and just said, "Try to remember how bad it feels!"
His worst symptom has been a very sore throat - he is quite miserable. I hope the Paxlovid kicks it fast. We're trying to stay distanced.

Hope the meds work and you stay well Alicia

We missed most of the storm at weekend, my nephew in Wales was OK despite the strong winds but my sister was without power from Saturday morning.

This retirement community requires us to quarantine - but drops food off by our door - so we're okay.
I thought I was going to avoid it, but it finally got me (SOMEONE I know didn't wear his mask when he left the apartment, I'm guessing). Since the incubation period can be up to two weeks, it could have been the ONE time I went out...
I don't think there's any way to know for sure unless you catch the virus in someone while it's active, and sequence its DNA (RNA?), so we'll leave that one unproven.
It's as miserable as I thought it would be, and my worst symptom is a huge deep sneeze which turns my lungs inside out, and hurts.
Oh, well!
I'm sure everyone has their story, but this is my first time. OUR first time. One gets a little cocky. And then the virus sneaks in and it's GOTCHA!
They say being vaccinated and boosted and taking Paxlovid all makes it less worse - I'm glad we have all that stuff, because it's definitely living up to its reputation.

Looking for new book friends. Please feel free to add me and I'll add back. I like most genres of books to read but my favourite would be thrillers and fiction books.

Sorry to hear you caught it Alicia, hopefully the meds will prevent it being too serious.

But I don't get out much, so it's all just what I see through my window, and that's been grey.
I will try to be more proactive once I get through this section of the book, get out of the building, maybe use the pool, but everything and everyone has kept me from getting this chapter done, and now I'm going to focus on what I want.
