Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Bianca proposes to Andrew that his family (two sisters, and his parents, on three farms in Ireland) should take a family vacation every year in the Caribbean with them so they can "get to know each other."

It's laughable and clueless of her - I was pretty sure.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, pain not as bad today, though did get woken up at 5am by Lucy snoring! Got back to sleep till 7.20 though. Was raining when I got up, and was supposed to rain all day, so didn't rush through the chores, then it stopped raining early afternoon, but hadn't finished the chores and couldn't be bothered to get dressed to go for a walk, so have only left the house to put the recycling out. Do feel better for it though. When I went to feed the rats, one of them gave me a lovely groom, I always find it fascinating that any small creature likes to nibble my nails!

Thanks Jim. I think even a family vacation locally if you have three farms between you would be pushing it Alicia, never mind the cost of going to the Caribbean.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments The potential new daughter-in-law is rich; the cost is not a factor, but she's used to using her wealth to get what she wants.

The fact that the actor she's hoping to marry comes from a farm in Ireland, and what that means, escapes her: she thinks it's possible to get all these people together for a month in a resort! Three FARMS to be managed in their absence. Clearly, she's not thinking clearly - just that it inconveniences her.

Sorry - I get involved in their lives as if they actually had them.

Sounds like you're quite fond of the little creatures. Rats can be quite entertaining - son had some for a while.

Jim | 21809 comments Potential new daughter in law would be better talking in terms of investment and business partnerships. That way she would have the entire family's attention :-)

message 555: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments That would mean she was actually interested, and she's very definitely far from that. She's the villain.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, not too bad a day pain wise, till I walked up the hill to get back to the car. Not a bad day at work either, nothing urgent in, so managed to clear some more stuff. Looking forward to having some longer lunches and might even look at some early finishes. Nipped (well, limped actually!) to Sainsbury's for a stir fry mix, figured it would be more expensive than Aldi/Lidl, but I might not be tempted with as much, turns out they had two in the reduced section, also came home with cauliflower cheese and grapes. Was only thinking yesterday I should start eating grapes at work again. Had them every day pre Covid, then got out of the habit.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, had a rubbish night sleep. Nice sunny day though, got up to 18! Had a nice day at work, nothing urgent came in, and very little of anything came in, so we managed to look at things on our to do lists, have got mine down dramatically. Went to the coffee shop to try a dark hot chocolate today, the new woman is on hol, got told I'm one of her favourite customers, which is nice. The replacement person was nice and friendly, though seemed to use a lot of milk in my dark hot choc, so not sure how much I liked it. Will try it with some syrups in though. My nail varnishes were being delivered today and I couldn't change it without setting up an account, my neighbours weren't in, so had to go to a local shop to pick it up, foot was OK walking up the hill today (though didn't like walking down it!), but my other calf muscle felt really tight and was uncomfortable driving, was rather glad of the traffic!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Another bright sunny California day - and my Kalanchoes are now in full bloom on our fourth floor north-facing balcony.

The blooms stay for a very long time, so the plants are given as gifts, in bloom, quite often. Mine ended up outside (in bigger planters) because apparently their pollen and I are incompatible, and I couldn't breathe last year. They and the purple aloes I rooted from cuttings are doing very well - except that neither plant is a California native, which is what I was going to populate with.

Ah, well - good intentions... You never know what you'll get when they are given to you. Our third plant, this one indoors and still alive after we got it as a seedling over five years ago, is a COFFEE plant with bright corrugated leaves. No flowers on it - but it is a green spot in the living room.

Jim | 21809 comments Interesting about the grapes. I made a habit during covid of making sure I ate at least one orange a day, or a couple of clementines.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Well, I'm not doing well with the grapes Jim, took some to work yesterday and forgot to eat them! Pre covid I always took grapes for mid morning and either clementine or apple for mid afternoon, but haven't been doing either, and when I'm not working, I forget about eating fruit. I find I'm better with dried fruit to snack on when at home, I keep buying tinned in the attempt to eat more, but forget about that too!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, woke up about 4am with cold feet, did get back to sleep but then didn't want to get up with my 6.30 alarm, so went back to sleep till the 7am alarm. Another quiet day at work, we are getting slightly worried about how quiet it is, especially with one of our engineers being off for two weeks after Fri. Sciatica is much better today, but muscles have been quite tight after walking. Had to go to post office at lunch for an Amazon return, it was a bit weird, I didn't have to package it, just take it to the post office and show a QR code, they put it in a returns bag, and I got the money back 2 hours later. Went bargain hunting after work, and had to pick up my prescription, there was something in Sainsbury's for 64p, decided to pay in cash, but couldn't find my purse in my bag, and I knew I'd used it at lunch, so had a minor panic, walked home, I'd taken it out and put it on the sofa! Went back round, and bumped into ratty neighbour who tried having a chat. Had been quite a humid day, started spitting as I got back to my street, then about 10 mins later, got some rain with that nice smell.

Still forgot about the grapes! Took the dried fruit upstairs to snack on though!

message 562: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I must admit I would instinctively reach for grapes rather than dried fruit.
I know what you mean about the smell of rain :-)

Also interesting about Amazon and the returns. Living out of town and having to drive in and do stuff is just such a pain, so I tend to mainly buy books from Amazon.

message 563: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments For a disabled person like me, with no car and no energy, Amazon has been THE best shopping experience ever, and I am grateful for being able to order something and have it show up. Living IN town is the only option right now, but shopping used to be a nightmare.

Don't like them, then don't use them. But millions of people can buy things who didn't used to be able to.

And, in twelve years, I have no complaint about them as my publisher (except that they haven't paid any attention to my brilliance as a writer and somehow done all the work of marketing, but I didn't really expect that :) ). Any problems are at my side - faster would be better.

I have lots of books from Amazon, but don't read very many of them - incapable of brain-sharing.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, got woken up at 6am by the wind, not sure where that came from after yesterday! Had a crazy busy morning with some tricky stuff that required conversations with manager. Decided to have an hour for lunch, but the afternoon didn't go much better, so still ended up working a bit later, so built up more flexi! Went to a shop at lunch, thought everything was better, then foot started cramping as I got near home. Did my usual bargain hunting after work, but legs felt quite heavy on the way home. Have put another magnet on, as going for a walk on Sat with C. Got a reminder at lunch that I have a rheumatology telephone consult on Thu, better start making a list! A messaged after work to say she'd seen a group of red deer on her way home, told her I was jealous, so she replied saying next time she see's them, she'll drive home, pick me up (even in my PJ's) and drive me back to see them! Was rather touched actually

Yes, they can be a godsend, and do have a good returns policy.

message 565: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments A is a good friend! Hope you get to see the red deer. Even in your pajamas.

We rarely use the returns, but they are always handled efficiently and without any argument when we need them - a real blessing.

Jim | 21809 comments We have a small family of Roe Deer which lives down on the mosses which form the bottom edge of our land :-)

Don't see them every week

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, quite a dull day, and started raining about 3. Colleague was starting late today, so had to keep an eye on everything for the first couple of hours, and had some tricky things that required conversations with manager. More tricky things in the afternoon, but got through loads, and managed to finish on time, with an hour for lunch, so felt very pleased, and got a nice compliment from someone we've been trying to get hold of for over a week, he needed stuff from 2 other departments, and was very grateful that I offered to send them messages to try and get things sorted for his mum. Went to the coffee shop at lunch and got a dark hot choc (
cherry bakewell blondie dropped in too), was much nicer than Tue, I'm going to try the other shop again but use a takeaway cup and see if that makes a difference. Bumped into a neighbour on the way home who is pet sitting what I think is a cockapoo - definitely some kind of poodle in him, he was so excited to see me, put both of his paws round one my arms like he was hugging me, she was quite shocked at how much he seemed to love me! Did the shops after work, legs were really sore again, got home and picked up Lucy, she also put both paws round my right arm, then my phone went, so moved my left arm to read the message on my tracker, she put a paw over it to stop me seeing it, she wanted all the attention! Got round to opening my nail varnishes, the new popcorn scented top coat does smell like popcorn!

Yes, she certainly is Alicia. Oh, how lovely to have roe deer so close Jim.

message 568: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments The Roe are good to see.
Just to say that I don't think coffee tastes as good in a takeaway cup :-)

Yesterday stayed fine, it was actually quiet pleasant which was lucky as we had a vet here doing the pregnancy diagnosis of forty two heifers
This morning has been miserable. At 8am it wasn't raining so much as a wall of drizzle slowly moving across the landscape

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments No, coffee is much nicer in a normal cup Jim. Hope the pregnancy diagnosis went well. Our day started like that, think the drizzle cleared about 11, which is good as I'm going for a walk shortly!

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments California is having a drizzling day, too. Misty moisty is the weather.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, woke up at 5.30, refused to get up, was contemplating what to do when the alarm went off at 6.30, clearly forgot to switch that off yesterday! Ankle was really painful, then realised it was swollen! So rather than doing loads of housework before going out, I just did the bare minimum (not even all the washing up, just enough to get us to Mon!) and sat with my foot elevated for a bit. C picked me up at 1.30, we did see some goslings in a field on the way up to the lake, fortunately managed to walk round it with no issues, looks like the swans are nesting too, the cygnet was in a different part of the lake, then we ate at the pub whose car park we had used, not been there since before Covid, and it has changed hands since and now has a carvery, so opted for that, as not had one for ages. I had the option of veg only, or cheese, onion and potato pie, went for the pie, which I had to wait for, they said 5 mins, we went up after 15 and it wasn't ready, so filled my plate with other stuff, then they brought it out, it was a decent size whole pie rather than a slice, so couldn't eat everything! Decent selection though, 6 veg if you include cauliflower cheese, 3 potatoes (though I couldn't have the roast potatoes, they had been cooked in beef fat) and massive home made yorkshire pudding. It said weekend was more expensive, but only got charged the weekday rate, so well worth the money. Got C to drop me off at co-op, walking home my foot started to hurt, so not sure if it is their steps, as I'd done 3 miles with no issues! Ratty neighbour had messaged late morning, they were out and had seen something advertised and wanted to stay overnight, if I could feed the rats, which I said yes to. Was in feeding them, went to give them all a stroke first, Ritchie grabbed my hand and started cleaning me, the poor rat next to him was a bit squashed! Gave them a mix of stuff from her fridge and my fridge, they loved the grapes, then went to stroke them all again before leaving, but could only get Ritchie's ear as 3 of them were in the same bed, he loved it, then I tried under his chin and he liked that too, neighbour said she's not tried that with him before. She messaged just as I'd put the food in to say they couldn't find anywhere to stay so were coming home! She just brought me some donuts as a thank you, told her she doesn't need to, they are staying overnight in a couple of weeks, so feeding them again then.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Funny that rats can eat grapes; I understand they are bad for cats and dogs.

message 573: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments I confess that I'm very sensitive to the smell of rats.
With regard the grapes I think rats can eat pretty much what we can, whether they've evolved along side us?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, our monthly craft fair today, I didn't have high hopes with it being a bank holiday weekend, but they had some Jaguar (car) enthusiasts there, so was hoping that would attract people, but we only had 3 sales, so didn't take our table fee. Some of the regulars weren't there, and she had new stall holders, felt a bit sorry for them as it was so quiet. Was a lovely sunny day, so guessing people were out, one of the ones who had been doing it for a while said that you can never tell what bank hol fairs are like. We had a spot in front of the window, so was nice and warm, and got to read some of my book. I normally have a Bailey's hot choc but it was so warm I didn't fancy that, the barstaff persuaded me to try a Kiwi and Lime cider, which was very nice, shame my local shops don't sell that flavour.

When I was looking after them last year Alicia, I kept googling things to check if I needed to cook certain things or if they could have them raw, I think they can eat an awful lot of things, but most in moderation, so they will still eat their complete food. Hers do have a vegan diet too.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, day started off really sunny and warm, did some of my 'Sunday chores', then as my foot was sore, thought I'd have a little look at the canal on the way to get my bottle of milk from co-op, saw British strawberries, thought it was a bit early, going to try them soon. Realised yesterday that my foot was sore, and wondered if the issue is my ankle, whether it was better on Sat as I had my walking boots on, and I've been wearing trainers. So had walking boots today and it was a lot better. Was clouding over when I was coming home, and had washing out, while cooking lunch, it went so dark I needed the light on, so thought I better bring the washing in before I sat down to eat, even though no rain forecast for an hour, opened the front door as large raindrops started to fall! Been mixed since, and an hour ago, had some thunder followed by very heavy rain. Didn't do much housework to rest my foot, realised I have no more fairs this month, so rather than keep doing a half hearted attempt at the whole house, I'm going to just focus on one room a day, and then try and just do 10 mins a day during the week to keep on top of things. Would be nice if it worked, if not, think I need to look at a new cleaner.

message 576: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments It's hard to keep up with cleaning when you're not feeling well. I managed when I used to work, many years ago, but couldn't do it now.

message 577: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments What are the soles of your trainers like? After a while they seem to 'collapse' and don't give any support

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, a nice sunny day, had to walk to the office with sunglasses on and car said 19 when I got in it at the end of the day. Fairly quiet day fortunately, had my 1-2-1 which went well, was more just a general chat but she was fine with my suggestion of sitting with the team they are planning on moving us into, to see if I would like working with them. Was supposed to have an eye test today, they rang to ask if I could go at 3.30 rather than 4.30, said that was too early, so booked in for next Mon instead.
Went to the coffee shop at lunch, asked for dark hot choc, and mentioned that it seemed quite milky last week, she said she would have a word with the girl who made it, which made me feel bad. Someone else made it, she said that she put extra powder in, and if it was too bitter, she'd remake it, but it was much nicer than last week. Decided to pop in M & S on the way home, got a couple of reductions, one I had for tea, one I've put in the freezer. Also went to Lidl for a few bits too.

It is Alicia, especially with work being so busy and working a bit longer, feels I need more rest at the weekend. They aren't too bad Jim, they are cheap versions of sketchers that have memory foam soles, but they are the new ones I bought last year.

message 579: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21809 comments It's always worth checking them, I find the heels can collapse :-)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, was supposed to have a dentist app this morning, but they rang as he'd had a family emergency, so it's now been rearranged for next Thu. Hopefully tomorrow's app will go ahead, as that one already has been rearranged! Started off cloudy, but went sunny at lunch. Annoyingly I'd misjudged how much hayfever eye drops I had left, so had to go to the chemist at lunch and pay more than I usually do, but the girl on the counter was someone who always served me but haven't seen her for months, got a nice welcome, so made up for it. Fairly quiet day at work, which is good as colleague's puppy had to have a tooth removed, so she had started late and finished at lunch.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Hello !!
So i have been busy with various things.
In December my office was closed after the takeover and work transferred to their office. As I only work part time in the office and part time work from home one hour travel to the new office was not realistic. My colleague also has family responsibilities with a special needs son so we both said that to expect us to travel was not reasonable, and please would they consider redundancy. I asked if I could continue to WFH but was told to stop being recalcitrant and work in the new office or resign. We are still hoping that something can be sorted. Fortunately I started to get my state pension in December and the amount is fairly similar to my part time earnings.

At the beginning of March mum was taken into hospital after a fall, xrays showed nothing broken but her leg was very swollen.
However they did blood tests and found that her potassium was too high, so she was given insulin to bring it down. Then glucose to increase her blood sugar, blood for low iron, saline and antibiotics as they said she had a slight chest infection. Then she was given a drip with bicarb - no idea what that was for. After a day in a&e she was transferred onto a ward. The swollen leg developed into a huge haematoma, but the doctors were more concerned with sorting mum's kidney function. She wasn't eating much -mostly jelly and icecream but that wasn't surprising as a&e managed to lose her teeth.
After a couple of weeks the doctors decided that she was able to go home, so she was FastTracked - which took a week to sort.
She is now home and because of her lymphoma she has visits from the hospice, carers 4times a day and someone to sit all night. Plus district nurses to bandage her leg and also palliative care nurses come every so often.

The GP came to see her the day after she came home, and made a fuss of our cats. He has two cats, they have breakfast with him then go across to his mother's for second breakfast. Our cats have likelix and he hadn't heard of it, when he visited again he said that his cats said thank you.

Ive just read through the posts since my last visit -
Stuart glad you enjoyed your holiday, my friend also went to Cambodia recently.
Desley -'our chip shop does children's meals which can be a small fish and small portion of chips plus a side - that used to be £3 I think, you could also have sausage, beefburger, chickenburger or fish fingers which were cheaper. I'm not sure of the prices because our order was small chips and gravy, onion rings and cheese pie. It is a very popular chip shop and always has a long queue.
My brother was up near you last week Jim, at their caravan.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, another nice day. Was supposed to have a telephone consultation at 10.30, at 12, thought I better ring and find out how far behind they were. Got a nice bloke who said 'it was cancelled yesterday, did you not get a message?'. I laughingly said no, had to explain why I found it amusing, he was very nice and said he was going to send some e-mails, partly because they cancelled without telling me and partly as they have cancelled it and not rearranged it, I'm supposed to have regular check ups on this new medication and haven't had anything since last July! I was more annoyed that I'd only done certain tasks as I didn't want to be on the phone when the hospital rang, luckily work was quiet enough today that it wasn't too much of an issue. So I should have had 3 appointments this week, and have had 0! I actually did want today's to see if they had any suggestions about my foot. Nice weather, though can't really walk as much as I have been doing, cut down the weeds at lunch and walked long way to co-op after work and fed a few geese.

Nice to see you Janet, sorry that work expect you to travel, hope they accept redundancy without you having to resign. Sorry that your mum had such a bad hospital visit, and hope everything resolves, though bet she is happy to be home again.

Your brother chose his time, the weather has been reasonable :-)

It's remarkably liberating when the government starts handing you money just for staying alive. Suddenly you can tell a silly employer to 'run up a shutter' and look elsewhere :-)

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Sorry I have been even more absent than usual (although I do check daily for spam!) but my mother had a stroke a couple of weeks ago so I have been occupied with driving up and down to her whilst still looking after my husband, who can manage on his own for a couple of days but needs me around for some tasks that only a sighted person can do! Good news is that mum is improving well and I'm feeling less stretched than I was.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, another nice sunny day, think it got up to 23! It's supposed to be nice this weekend, so my plan of blitzing a room a day might have to wait! Looking after rats tonight and tomorrow, she messaged this morning as she'd rushed out and wasn't sure if she locked the door, so had to pop and check, she's kindly bought me 3 bottles of cider this time, including one I was contemplating buying myself (and one I have bought but not tried yet, so hope I like that one!), then just as I was going upstairs to start work, G messaged as she was on a train and wasn't sure she'd shut her front room window, said it'd have to wait to lunch, so she got someone else to push it shut, and turned out she hadn't left it open after all! Not a bad day at work and got the bathroom floor hoovered and mopped at lunch. Got a new rheumatology app, it's 12 noon on one of our office days, manager asked if I'd rather work from home, which I said yes to, I am going to ring that morning and check it's still on! Went the long way to co-op after work, and saw the goslings in goose field, took a while to count them, but eventually worked out there were 12 of them!

Sorry to hear about your mum R, glad that she is improving and you aren't being as stretched, hope she continues to improve.

Sorry to hear about your mum - hope she's improving steadily. It sounds as if your margin of safety has suddenly disappeared. Are there ways to get some help, even if temporary?

We've been up to our ears with medical appointments and scares, and the feeling is terrifying - the writing and everything are suffering. My assistant coming two hours twice a week has been a godsend. It's amazing what I can get done with her help.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening all, another nice sunny day, so have done very little housework. My cheque for my excess finally arrived, though only for my excess, have had to e-mail them to ask for the court expenses (judge did ask the solicitor to make sure I got this money, as everyone thought I should have already had my excess!), luckily I can deposit cheques using my app, though took ages to scan the blank back page, and they need to do extra cheques so will take a few days to clear. Put my walking sandals on and went for a walk, but they didn't help pain much, so just went the long way to the co-op, saw two geese with 3 goslings in field, was a bit worried, till I walked a bit further, then saw the large family I saw last night. Co-op had some cakes reduced, ended up buying one larger than I wanted, but it was cheaper than a blondie, and some ice cream. After lunch I sat out with a fruity cider, finished one book and have read 30% of a new book, so house only looks marginally better, but I feel happy. Rest has probably been good for my foot too, maybe I should try taking it a bit easier till it eases.

Alicia, meant to say last night, while neighbours rats like grapes, they do tend to leave the raisins when you give them muesli!

message 591: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Interesting about the rats - maybe raisins stick to their teeth.

It sounds as if the insurance company will do anything not to pay what they owe - the 'mistakes' and 'forgettings' are always in their favour. I'd let the court know what they pulled (if you have the energy for another go at it, by letter), so they can yell at the insurance company.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Didn't think of that, especially as they will be wet as she puts milk on their muesli. Well, I'll see what happens with the e-mail, if that doesn't work, I'll contact the solicitors involved with the court date - it's only £16.30, but it's the principle of it now, and made worse by having to wait nearly 2 years for my excess to be repaid.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, day started off cloudy and overcast, which was a bonus. Did some Sunday chores, went to go gosling counting and bargain hunting, then as it was still cloudy after I'd had lunch, I started tackling the kitchen. Once I'd done a fair amount, I sat down and had some cake, then the sun came out, so I sat outside reading with an ice cream. Only stayed sunny for an hour, so then came back and did a little more housework, then finished my book, and started a new one. Have swapped my slippers today as think the memory foam on the others has gone, foot is slightly better, though could be due to resting. Have had two thunderstorms, both followed by incredibly heavy rain that was bouncing off roofs, so wouldn't be surprised if there had been some flash flooding around.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, fairly quiet day at work, though the last thing I picked up looked easy and ended up not being, and took longer than planned to sort. Had my eye test, slight change in my prescription, not enough to need new glasses, but he said that I'm at the age where that could change quickly so was suggesting reading glasses and varifocals. Agreed to get a new pair, just to see (the only difference I've noticed is that reading subtitles aren't clear, but reading everything else is fine), he said I'd need both as mine are officially for distance, but I only wear them for my light sensitivity, I don't actually notice any difference. He also wasn't convinced I have a cataract, he described it as something a stage before that, which is interesting given how many people have looked in my eyes since that diagnosis. The sales person was trying to get me to buy from the expensive range, but I found a nice purple pair for £50, getting them in a couple of weeks. Had to walk past Farmfoods to get home, so had a nosey, not as good as it used to be.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Hello again, hope everyone is OK

I'm keeping busy with various people coming or phoning about mum.
The palliative care nurse came and has suggested an increase in the pain medication so instead of me giving the liquid meds four or five times a day, we have slow release patches plus paracetemol and a top up of the original stuff for when her dressings are changed as that is very painful for her.
The physio came to assess at weekend and they recommend that we do easy exercises to strengthen her legs but at this moment they don't see that we will be able to get her out of bed to sit in a chair.

We had a thunderstorm on Sunday, it didn't bother the cats. There was so much rain that water was running down the hill like a river, the chap across the road filmed himself stood in the road with the water above his ankles.

The cats are so different. Barney is always in the middle of anything going on - he is an attention seeker. Bradley still hides some of the time but is becoming braver. I don't eat fish in any way, mum used to have chip shop fish but hasn't wanted it for a while. I have usually bought chicken or turkey biscuits for our cats, so i was veryg surprised at the way they tried to share my niece's tuna sandwich when she came last weekend.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Evening, woke up to rain, got really heavy by the time I got round the corner in the car, but luckily traffic was bad, so it was just light rain by the time I parked up. Not a bad day at work, nipped to Aldi for 3 things, so walked over, they have some interesting looking snacky summer foods, resisted the urge to buy most of them, so will need to go back. Then popped into Sainsbury's checking for bargains, got something for tea, something that will do part of 2 lunches, a loaf of bread that'll do a week, and a pack of 4 snack bars for £2.26! Very impressed.

Yes, and I paid extra for a special scan that picks up things early - ironically I am supposed to get those for free from the hospital due to my medication, but they keep forgetting me, and it's actually easier to pay and pick an appointment that suits me, so the opticians have put me on yearly checks. Hospital obviously say there test is better, but SpecSavers seem to care more to be honest, even though I don't always see the same person.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Cross posted Janet, do hope the new meds help your mum. Wow, that does sound a lot of rain.

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Your NHS had such promising beginnings - Maybe they'll get back to them some day. 'They keep forgetting' is not what you want to hear.

You might get one from the hospital - close to the time of the ones you pay for - and see how they compare. The husband is starting to do that - pay for tests arranged outside of our service because it's more convenient or more frequent than what Medicare provides. Not all the time, but he's following his own heart treatment carefully, and keeps track of all his numbers.
