She was such a control freak, but still it was tough to imagine how a mother would think she could guarantee to herself the outcome she desired. What is appalling about her is that she seemed not to learn any lesson from this catastrophe. [I would like to have gotten to know more about her daughter's life.]

Yes and no. I was surprised but not shocked. When it was said a few times that he was not be harmed while he was kidnapped, I wondered if his mother did it but it seemed too cruel.

Elizabeth? Mother tendencies? Never. She couldn't even remember her granddaughters' names let alone tell them apart. I should have figured she could have David abducted but didn't think even she could stoop this low.
