Elizabeth Fairchild was cast as the powerful magnate who controlled most of the town. Given its size, was it realistic that so many would be willing to treat Keeley so cruelly and unfairly?

From other books, movies and tv series I have seen I can believe it especially if in a small town she is the only way of moving up in their "world". Plus, she seemed hellbent on making Keeley and her mother's life miserable so had the time and means.


lorii (Loriidae) Yes it was believable enough for me to continue reading because in some towns, where a mill for example is the main employer, and where pretty much everyone has a family member employed, and the shops depend on that income to be spent in the town. It could conceivably all trickle down...
