How well did the author capture Keeley's pain and suffering over the loss of her daughters?

Charlene (charlenethestickler) | 1392 comments I don't know how well fiction could portray such suffering; with this story, I just took it as a "given," since Keeley was virtually alone in her isolation. The kidnapping would have been devastating.
As I read more of the story, I think her frustration as a former runner being unable to be quick enough did heighten my sense of her suffering, that she felt guilt for not catching up with their captors.

I tend to experience stories vicariously, especially if they're written well. The part where Keeley would wake from a dream to relive the anguish of finding her children missing hit me pretty hard. I could feel that pain, as if it were real. I pictured my niece and nephew's rooms and what it would feel like to get up every day and experience their absence....the smells, the favorite toys gathering dust...it was very real for me.

I think Reece does a great job in all her books in conveying the suffering the characters experience. That is one of the reasons her novels feel so realistic and stick with you.

lorii (Loriidae) I think Reece covered it well without overly dwelling, it came over in Keely's nightmares and dogged determination over her daily schedule.
