I couldn't stand working with a team to write papers in college. I can't even imagine trying to write a book with someone else. I've read some people who were great at collaborating but in those cases I'm thinking the true unsung hero is the editor!

I've run into a few authors who've done this and they both have to be of the same mindset for it to work. For me, I think I'd be editing over and over to make the parts work together. Thus as you suggest, the need for a good editor.
