I wish I could remember the details!! I can't recall what Kate learned but I do know that I was fascinated by Hugh in this book.
She learned that he pursued Voron, not at Roland's direction but because he was hurt that he do easily abandoned him personally. All this time Kate thought it was to kill her and Voron because he didn't want a child. Hugh acted on his own.
I was really shocked at how much Hugh divulged to her. It was clear that he's terribly intrigued by her. After having lived so many years, she challenges him, relieving his boredom.

Hugh cannot be trusted. Anything he says including this sob story of how he felt betrayed by Voron is suspect. I'm taking everything he says with a grain of salt! One thing that is clear, however, is that he is fascinated by Kate and may now have his own agenda where it comes to her.
I agree he cannot be trusted, though I believed his story about Voron. It'll be interesting to see if that holds up.
