Drace (dracenines) | 7415 comments So, a while back, Goodreads librarian Liralen asked me to number each different edition I post about when I create a thread in the Projects folder about cleaning up issues with many different editions of a particular book (or books). I've been doing so since then, but I have a question regarding a very long thread I'm working on typing up to post in the near future.

The thread is to clean up issues with books published by a popular horror publisher, and I'm breaking the posts up by year, then by books published in that year. So my question is: how should I handle numbering the editions? I'll provide examples below. Thanks in advance to any librarian who can provide their thoughts on the matter.

Option A: Restart With Each Book

2020 BOOKS

Zombie Book Title
1. Issues with hardcover
2. Issues with paperback
3. Issues with Kindle

2021 BOOKS

Vampire Book Title
1. Issues with paperback
2. Issues with Kindle

Witch Book Title
1. Issues with paperback
2. Issues with Kindle

Option B: Restart With Each Year

2020 BOOKS

Zombie Book Title
1. Issues with hardcover
2. Issues with paperback
3. Issues with Kindle

2021 BOOKS

Vampire Book Title
1. Issues with paperback
2. Issues with Kindle

Witch Book Title
3. Issues with paperback
4. Issues with Kindle

Option C: No Restarts, continuous numbering the whole way through

2020 BOOKS

Zombie Book Title
1. Issues with hardcover
2. Issues with paperback
3. Issues with Kindle

2021 BOOKS

Vampire Book Title
4. Issues with paperback
5. Issues with Kindle

Witch Book Title
6. Issues with paperback
7. Issues with Kindle

Liralen | 8218 comments Since I'm in here already, I'll suggest Option D: Separate threads for each book. Much easier for librarians to digest/keep track of, and higher chance for you that at least some of the issues will be resolved quickly.

I was a bit hesitant to do the "separate thread for each book" route due to the sheer number of books (for example, they published 16 books in 2022 and will have published 20 in 2023 by the end of the year), but I suppose by just taking it bit by bit and only having a few threads for this publisher going at a time, it'll be easier to take care of. Slow and steady and all that.

Earlier this year I started a Big Massive All Books At Once project thread for the current UK editions of the bibliography of J.G. Ballard. It's kinda died off at this point, but maybe I can revive that project by taking the same step-by-step route.

Anyways, thanks so much for your input. I'll mark the thread as Answered.

Dobby (dobby0390) | 7858 comments I know that sometimes I'll have limited time to work on requests, so I skip requests with multiple books in the thread. Speaking only for myself, one book per thread works best for me as a rule.
