Chapter 1-7: (view spoiler)[Ava is 22. In what world is it okay for her brother to ask his best friend to move in at his home in order to keep an eye on his sister? And Alex is being such an awful person too. He’s a controlling jerk with no respect for what anyone else wants. It’s clear that both him and Ava have went through some kind of traumatic past and they’d connect over it later on but honestly that doesn’t give him a pass to be so awful to everyone around him (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 8-18: (view spoiler)[Alex is still being as overbearing as ever and i do not have the patience for it. I have grown way past beyond the point when I believed this was just being “protective” of someone you love. Ava confiding in him about how her mother pushed her into the lake and that’s the source of her night terrors was such a huge step but the same growth can’t be seen in Alex yet. It was annoying that he has no faith in Ava despite seeing through his own eyes how she headbutted Liam when he bothered her (hide spoiler)]

chapter 19-28: (view spoiler)[ I don’t think i am ever going to start liking Alex in this book. First he kissed Ava that way and then pushed her away rambling about how he wasn’t good for her. THEN he had the audacity to act all possessive about her , telling her what to do and who to be with. It’s honestly very frustrating. He opened up a bit about his past with her though, i am wondering who the business rival might be or if he has been introduced already. It’s sad that she was pushed that way into the lake and by her own dad who had her believing that it was her mom who tried to killed her! (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 29-38: (view spoiler)[i am so over reading about how Alex is a freaking genius every few pages, i mean WE GET IT! He has a brilliant memory, never forgets anything- way to be subtle about it. I had started suspecting that Ivan was the mastermind behind everything and that’s what was revealed eventually so not much of a surprise there. Alex is so condescending tbh, the way he always decides what’s best for Ava without even talking to her for a second. This romance is trash (hide spoiler)]

Despite having everything he could ever need or want, his first thought upon finding out that Bridget is the future queen of Eldorra was how he could blackmail her possibly. I hate him with a passion. And the way he talked about being the best person for the CEO position at this company, nope. No one who just ups and leaves anytime they want and then returns months later CANNOT ever be the best man for a job. I even starting hating Ava for always excusing his behaviour (hide spoiler)]

25% -- (view spoiler)[ Alex isn’t really my cup of tea… it’s giving Christan Grey. I’m trying to picture him as a modern Mr. Darcy, which is making him a bit better. (hide spoiler)]

49% -- (view spoiler)[ I’ll admit, the writing is a bit predictable. I mean, the spicy scenes are fun, but there doesn’t seem to be too much plot other than that. (hide spoiler)]

73% -- Okay - I retract my earlier statement. (view spoiler)[ The melodrama?? Between Alex’s uncle and Ava’s parents… holy shit wayyy better plot than I was expecting. (hide spoiler)]

Finished -- (view spoiler)[ This was a fun and fast read, though I do think it is overhyped. I’m not really a Christian Grey type of girl, so this book probably wasn’t the one for me. I think I’m going to be more interested in the princess/ bodyguard story. (hide spoiler)]

I also feel like this author couldn't figure out if she wanted to write a dark romance or a rom/com or something in between. I also didn't like the third-act breakup. I hate that in books. It's used way too much. (hide spoiler)]

30% -- (view spoiler)[ The tension between these two is good... though the whole "enemies to lovers" trope doesn't really fit here. Like, why was she such a hater at first? (hide spoiler)]

62% -- (view spoiler)[ I’m beginning to think that Reese may actually be a prince/ some royalty and he and Bridget will be able to be together because of that fact… I mean, he doesn’t know who his dad is. It's totally predictable, but I do love the royalty/ bodyguard chemistry. (hide spoiler)]

90% -- (view spoiler)[ Called it! Wishing we had more of the friendship between the girls woven into the story. They seem like kind of an afterthought/ a loose way of weaving the different books together. (hide spoiler)]

Finished -- (view spoiler)[ This was a fun and fast read as well. I did enjoy this book better than book one, but am looking forward to book three the most. I felt Josh and Jules would make a good couple… These books are like a raunchy Nicholas Sparks story - same format, different characters. Not a bad summer beach read, but it’s also not one I’ll probably reread. (hide spoiler)]

39% -- (view spoiler)[ Well, soft and gentle is over lol. Max seems like a piece of work. He's probably going to be the bomb that breaks up the couple in a few chapters. Can’t wait for Josh to be the knight in shining armor. (hide spoiler)]

72% -- (view spoiler)[ Josh was so understanding about her mom and her last name change… why does she think he wouldn’t be understanding about Max and the rest of her past? Seriously, she’s going to steal this painting and then that’s going to ruin their relationship. Ugh - just tell him!! (hide spoiler)]

Finished -- (view spoiler)[ The series has gotten better, and this book had characters that were easier to relate to (not a billionaire or a queen as the MC). Still, the books are frustratingly similar. Male and female would NEVER get along, then they have MIND BLOWING sex, start a relationship, something from the past blows it all up, and then they have to reconcile their relationship before its happily ever after. I don’t hate the series - they are very quick and fun reads. This series is very much brain cotton candy: delicious while consuming, over quickly. After three cotton candies in a row, I need to take a break before the last book. (hide spoiler)]

Of course they over turn the ancient law so that she can marry her body guard.

Of course his dad is now found and he's a part of parliment for them to black mail.

I think I'm going to walk away from this series. These first two were not good for me and I really struggled to get through this last one.

That's how I felt too... made it through book 3 because I was holding out hope that the boy next door would be better. It wasn't.
