Melissa | 1896 comments A few notes for you all!

Lauri, could you add The Secrets of Hartwood Hall to your shelf?

Daniel, your page count for Death du Jour does not match the book you linked.

Megan, your Man in Tokyo has the same problem...

Could you check this? Thanks!!

message 252: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments I really want to read Man in Tokyo - was it a fast read, or a slower one?

message 253: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments How is everyone's reading going? Any stand out books?

Daniel Hanson-Brown (dozerpup711) | 224 comments I haven’t started Death du Jour yet, and sometimes GR doesn’t use the official kindle version as the one to use. When I start reading it and get the correct version I’ll make sure it is updated! 🎃

megan | 1492 comments My dude in Tokyo book should be the correct edition and page number now. It should be the Kindle one, but I’m doing this from my phone and it might need a double check.

Ariel (aellen) | 129 comments I jumped on the Icebreaker (Hannah Grace) train this yesterday and I get it now - I get the hype. It was so good.

Sorry about that!
I think I read the wrong column.🫢🦇🦇🦇👻

You’re good. I brought it up on my kindle to trigger the correct version and went ahead and fixed it. 😊🧙‍♂️🧛‍♂️

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1568 comments Hi everyone! Sorry I was MIA this weekend. We had a pet emergency and it was ROUGH! Our 6-mo old Husky somehow severed 2 of the 3 tendons in his back leg and is now awaiting surgery to either reattach the tendons or possible amputation. Hopefully everything goes smoothly regardless.

I will be checking in on everything more closely once I am home again, unless I have a nice lull at work and can sneak in a few moments.

Brittany McCann (brittanylmccann) | 1266 comments Holy wow! That is insane and terrible. How the heck did your dog manage that? Did it get in a fight? Poor baby! Big hug to you. That's a lot to deal with

Melissa | 1896 comments I am enjoying this settings part of the challenge. My current book in Johannesburg is a little slow go in the middle (Present Darkness) but I definitely wouldn't have picked it up otherwise.
The Last Rose of Shanghai was emotionally intense just about all the way through.
But I'm glad to have read it. I read Last Boat Out of Shanghai: The Epic Story of the Chinese Who Fled Mao's Revolution and these two together gave me a picture of what was going on in Shanghai around 1937.

I'm trying to figure out how to make a timeline to fit the different things I learn about on the way.

message 269: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1568 comments Thanks everyone! It was just a freak accident! We recently roofed a shed in our backyard and we think he somehow sliced it on a sheet that was leftover? That's the only thing remotely sharp where he was and that's all we can come up with.

We were able to pick him up tonight to await surgery. We decided the best route was amputation, since the recovery for the reattachment is pretty brutal and we aren't sure he will tolerate it well.

So, we should have a tripod by the weekend! Gah, what a week it will be!

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1568 comments End of Round Countdown: 2 Days : 20 Hours : 30 Minutes

Let's make sure we are happy with everything on the SS and if you think you won't finish something, please let us know and/or remove it!

If you have any last-minute add-ons, please feel free! Throw in some red covers or short books, or both!

Also, if you notice that you have added a read date to your book but there is no check mark from a captain, your book might not be on your wheels shelf! Please try to make sure we clear up anything before the end of the round! :)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1568 comments Round 3 Information!!!

Our Round 3 word is SYNTHESIZER and our cover color is WHITE! I've added all the necessary info to our tracking SS, so feel free to begin addition books if you'd like!

Bonus Info
For this round, we need to find musical instruments on the cover of our books (any instrument, just has to be obviously an instrument). Each found instrument will earn an additional 5 bonus points. Only one instrument per book cover and a maximum of 10 bonus instruments. You can find the same instrument multiple times (not least because no one's got time to decide if it's a violin or viola etc etc)

Note: It is possible changes will be made to the standard rules based on the point spread at the end of round 2, but we won't know that until the end of the round!
