Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1568 comments Hiya Team Opera!
Round 2 Details are UP!

Our new word is "VIOLA POMPOSA" and our Cover Color is RED!

Also, check out the BONUS information!
Now that we've got a collection of instruments, let's go on a tour!

During Round 2 books set in one of the musical cities on the list below earn an additional 5 bonus points.

Only one bonus locale per book and a maximum of 10 bonus locations. (UPDATED!) Books must be at least 50% in the listed city, and unlike last round, we can only "visit" each city once! In other words, we can only use a city for a bonus ONCE!

Location List:(view spoiler)

Any questions? Let's here them!

Countdown to Round 2: 2 Days / 17 Hours

I noticed Spells and Spiced Latte on your wheels shelf when doing some book verification. Is this a book you will finish before the end of Round 1, or will you push it to Round 2?

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1568 comments Location Help!
I made a (not in any way) exhaustive list of books in different locations, and by exhaustive, I mean that I'm tired of even looking at the list.... lol

Austin: https://www.goodreads.com/places/2088...
Berlin: https://www.goodreads.com/places/1359...
Bogotá (Bogota): https://www.goodreads.com/places/9139...
Brazzaville: https://www.goodreads.com/genres/braz...
Half the World Away - Chengdu, China
Chicago: https://www.goodreads.com/places/1103...
Detroit: https://www.goodreads.com/places/1944...
Havana: https://www.goodreads.com/places/1502...
Johannesburg: https://www.goodreads.com/places/2213...
Kingston: https://www.goodreads.com/places/2575...
Liverpool: https://www.goodreads.com/places/1988...
Manchester: https://www.goodreads.com/places/3014...
Melbourne: https://www.goodreads.com/places/4925...
Milan: https://www.goodreads.com/places/2424...
Montreal: https://www.goodreads.com/places/7268...
Nashville: https://www.goodreads.com/places/1400...
New Orleans: https://www.goodreads.com/places/931-...
Paris: https://www.goodreads.com/places/898-...
Seoul: https://www.goodreads.com/places/6380...
Shanghai: https://www.goodreads.com/places/1305...
Sydney: https://www.goodreads.com/places/1030...
Tokyo: https://www.goodreads.com/places/1764...
Toronto: https://www.goodreads.com/places/6756...
Varanasi (Benares): https://www.goodreads.com/places/4903...
Vienna: https://www.goodreads.com/places/1007...

Now, because we can only use books set somewhere ONCE, if you find a location on the list, let us know ASAP, so no one reads a book (that they wouldn't otherwise be reading) twice. Of course, everyone is welcome to read whatever they want, but if someone wasn't stoked about reading a book that was set in Brazzaville, we wouldn't want someone to take it out from under them. Hope that makes sense!

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1568 comments Just a team heads-up!

We (the captains) only have 30 mins after each round ends to update the official spreadsheet and check in with the mods. After those 30 mins are up, we cannot add any more books that have been read for this round.

Please remember to share all your finished books with enough time to spare, we don't want them to go to waste!

If you will be finishing up a book very close to the deadline, please let us know ASAP! :)

Melissa | 1896 comments Shannon wrote: "Ive finished the Cursed Cruise and marked it down on the spreadsheet! Do we have to wait til the start of the next riund to start a new book or can we start reading already?"

Start reading! :)
Books just need to be started after the beginning of the whole challenge - back 2 weeks ago. Finishing date is the key.

Melissa | 1896 comments Looking good folks!
7 1/2 hours before round two starts.
I've got a couple of books in limbo between the two rounds - we'll see where they land.
We did really well with bonuses and BOMs. Right there with the leaders.
We are currently in 10th place. Which is great! One or two books away from ninth :)
It's fun to creep up the ranks - unsuspectedly....

message 177: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1568 comments Alright team! We've got our last spell-out complete! Woo! We have one more book that is not finished. If we get that one logged before the cutoff, I'll add it in as well!

We've dropped in the ranking, but that's ok. If we're strategizing for Round 2, I'd say we just need to read MORE books. That seems to be where we are falling behind. Get your reading hats on!! :)

Either way, great job for Round 1 team!!

message 178: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Yes, over 100 pages counts. The only tricky part is if it is a middle grades or children’s book - then you have to look at word count too.

message 179: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1568 comments I always like to squeeze in a few shorties at the end of the round for extra points (when I can)! Don't be shy, read a short book (or 12!)!

message 180: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 1896 comments Bummer!
I’m trying to squeeze in a middle grades book now.

message 183: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Basile (smashreads) | 1568 comments Round 1 Stats:

Number of Books Read: 63 (3 short from our books per 2 weeks goal)
Page Points: 2238
Bonus Points: 75
BOM Points: 80
TOTAL: 2393
