I second the recommendation for reading (or at least looking at the pictures of) some manga. I'm thinking specifically of Grand Guignol Orchestra, Pandora Hearts, or Monokuro Kitan.

Any thoughts on themes like:

entitlement

objectification

materialism

opportunism

Basically I'm presenting something that emphasis a depraved expectation for worthwhile entertainment, the competitiveness and vanity that breeds and what happens when individuals are reduced to stock characters and playthings who need to accept their place or be replaced with someone with a more grateful, accommodating disposition.
