Since our GOTM is mythic fantasy, have you seen some other mythic fantasy books that you plan on reading this month? Or maybe you've seen some on your TBR shelf and became inspired to read those.

Because Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman is one of the group reads for this month, I want to read American Gods by Neil Gaiman since it is the first book in the series.

Shomeret | 76 comments Actually, Anansi Boys is not a sequel of American Gods. But don't let me prevent you from reading American Gods. It's wonderful!

If mythic fantasy is defined as fantasy containing Gods and Goddesses then I have one on my pile of books from the library. It's The Just City by Jo Walton. The Goddess Athena and the God Apollo are characters in this novel, but it isn't based on a specific myth. I think it's based on Plato's Republic which is ancient, but not a myth. Plato was writing about his ideal society.

I'm glad to hear that it is not a sequel to American Gods. I'll see if the library has this book as well, so I can read it.

I'm so excited now!!!! Because I hate reading books out of order. It makes me feel like I missed something important lol

Now I have a huge confession, I've actually never read Plato's Republic and most book readers give me a blank stare when I say this. I've also never read The Just City, but by reading the summary it sounds pretty decent.

Len (lengroan) I THINK I read Plato's Republic somewhere through my education, but I can't remember it for my life. The Just City sounds really decent, though. Maybe I'll give it a try too.
