20.1 - Most Improved: Rockynook's Task: Earning a Ph.D.

I am so excited to be Most Improved this season! The big reason I was able to participate so much more this summer challenge was that I finished my doctorate program in December and was finally able to spend a summer how I wanted: reading! So, for this task, I used my doctorate degree as my inspiration. I earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Teaching and Learning with an emphasis in Mathematics Education.

For this task, read a book that satisfies one of the following options.

Required: State which option you chose when posting.

A) Read a book with a title word of 3+ letters (excluding the word "the") that can be formed from the letters in DOCTORATE OF PHILOSOPHY. Letters can only be used as many times as they appear in the phrase.

Required: State the word.

B) Read a book by a single author whose first and last initials are found in TEACHING AND LEARNING. Letters can only be used as many times as they appear in the phrase.

C) Read a book where the main character is a teacher, a professor, or a student.

Required: If the character's occupation is not evident from the GR blurb, provide a reference.

Marie (UK) (mazza1) | 3940 comments Just checking because my head has gone through 3 posibiities

In option a - the title only needs to have ONE 3 letter word found in the phrase
so Lost in Time would work LOST in target phrase

AND this book also fits option 2 because i can ignore the G as author's middle initial A.G. Riddle

Only asking because I often end up reading something different to whatever i planned

Kathy KS | 2378 comments For option A, please clarify:
Does "title word of 3+ letters (excluding the word "the")" mean
words of 3 or more letters (since you mention "the")
OR
words of MORE than 3 letters (the plus part)

I have the same question as I have a book with the word LOT which would work if it is 3 letters, not if the +part is essential :)

Inge (Inge1990) | 408 comments Hi is there a way to get answer to message 6 & 7?
Is it 3 or more then 3 for the letters?

message 18: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (bookwrm526) | 2105 comments I was wondering if it's ok to read Sweetest in the Gale for option 3 - it's a collection of three stories, but the main characters in all three are teachers!

Thanks!

Yes, the description of the main character is an "avout" which is someone who studies science, history, or philosophy. So, I say that works!

Kim | 762 comments Will this work for option C? The main character is not a student for the entirety of the book.

Painting Time

Thank you.
