Sam wants her fellow cops to respect her as a cop and not see her as Skip's daughter. She is sensitive to the nepotism thing, but secure in her own skin. she earned her Detective shield by hard work and not on the Deputy Chief's coattails. But she loves her father, and he loves her.
Those were my impressions, too, Anita. She seemed well aware of the nepotism thing and it was so clear here how much she loved and respected her father. I liked her and thought she had a good sense of humor. And, she was unique in deciding to have two guys as roommates. I also felt she’d earned her badge.
I agree she is aware of nepotism. Honestly, it isn't unusual. Every police department in the north east has a tradition of families in the PD. I think women got accused of advancing via nepotism more than men. Sam is secure in her skills and ignores the comments.I liked her sense of humor too.
I agree with all of your comments. It's clear that Sam worked her behind off to get those promotions that were probably harder for women than for men, in the first place.
Good points about the legacy with respect to men. No one ever questions male advancement unless they’ve got a bad record.
