Edie | 1144 comments It looks like someone deleted several of my books from the planning sheet.

I finished everyone in this room will someday be dead. It has 243 pages, so counted it in Parcheesi - page count of any combination of 2,3,4

I also added Poverty by American back on the Planning tab.

That was me Edie. I moved completed books from the planning sheet to the complete sheet. I checked before moving them from planning that the books were on the completed sheet. I messed up & I'm sorry. I will check better next time.

Sherri Harris | 1495 comments Hi Everyone, while I was looking at the spreadsheet I noticed we have only 2 prompts left to finish Parcheesi. I went on & used 3 dice rolls to complete the 3 prompts filled. Our current standing is 13 rolls accrued, 10 used, 3 remaining. We can always move rolls around as needed if we find ourselves short to complete a category.

message 54: by JessicaMHR (new)

JessicaMHR | 305 comments Just finished Loathe to Love You with 57 pages read. Added it to rolls tracking, the completed list, and put it on Trivial Pursuit for book related to science. (All the lead characters are scientists.)

Now I'm gonna start From the Desk of Zoe Washington...not sure yet where this will fit.

No worries. It was easily remedied. I was just surprised. I find moving things around on spreadsheets quite challenging.

I am half way through Tom Lake which will fill in one of the missing prompts for Parchessi.

And then I went to the library and found some more books. Is it crazy to be currently reading 4 books... at least they are all different from each other.

message 57: by JessicaMHR (new)

JessicaMHR | 305 comments Decided to finish another book in progress before really getting into the Zoe Washington book. So, I just finished The Best American Short Stories 2018. Unfortunately, it will only count towards pages read since I only had 73 pages left to read. But that is OK because, I am FINALLY finished with it! It only took me two months!

Erica | 340 comments Congratulations Jessica you’re free. I’m working on a book for a popsugar prompt right now, the romance with a fat lead. I’ve tried a couple books this year for it and they’ve been duds so I finally have found a good one. Tastes Like Shakkar. Unfortunately it’s about people in New Jersey and not set in India.

message 59: by JessicaMHR (new)

JessicaMHR | 305 comments OHH junk! Yeah I haven't done that prompt yet either. I thought I had one then I realized it's not a romance.

message 60: by Erica (new)

Erica | 340 comments One more prompt to finish off a game of clue. Set in a large house or mansion.

message 61: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1495 comments Good Morning Team Ship. We are doing great. Our current standing is, rolls accrued 16, used 13, remaining 3. We only need one prompt to complete Clue. A book set in a large house or mansion. I noticed Katherine has in progress The Taste of Ginger which is marked for set in India. If this doesn't work I own Independence which is set in India. I can read it next.
I won't finish The American Agent till Wednesday. I won't have time to read today till 2:00 pm.
I hope everyone has a good day today.

message 62: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments I should be completing The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich today which will count for a mansion. I should be done early afternoon.

message 63: by Katherine (last edited Sep 12, 2023 06:54AM) (new)

Katherine | 232 comments Morning Shipmates! I just finished The Disaster Tourist by Yun Ko-eun . I'll try to add it to something that we don't have filled, yet, but not sure if that's possible.

Yes, I am halfway through a book taking place in India. It's good, and I should probably have it finished by tomorrow.

Update: I put the book I finished in Risk-- a character who takes a risk. But if we need to move it to some place else later, that's totally fine.

message 64: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments I completed The Princess and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich and I put it in the mansion spot. Please feel free to move it if necessary.

message 65: by Erica (new)

Erica | 340 comments So we've accomplished a game of Clue and The Game of Life. We have one more prompt to complete Risk, a book where war is involved. Great job guys!

message 66: by JessicaMHR (new)

JessicaMHR | 305 comments Just finished From the Desk of Zoe Washington. Added it to the completed tab.

message 67: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1495 comments Good Morning Team Ship. It's very exiting to look at the spreadsheet & see all the completed games. This is fun. I will finish The American Agent later today which can be used for the war prompt. I have no idea what I will read next. Thanks everyone for the hard work. Happy reading.

message 68: by MJ (new)

MJ | 947 comments Good morning! I finished Of Women and Salt,
and will work toward finishing Woman, Watching: Louise de Kiriline Lawrence and the Songbirds of Pimisi Bay, which can go under the "where a war is involved" prompt. I will not finish it today!

Camping was great! I got blisters because my boots are new :(
The frost on the ground yesterday morning was a surprise - that wasn't in the weather forecast!

message 69: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments I read 130 pages yesterday. I started Britt-Marie Was Here which looks like it can count for several prompts. Hopefully it will be a quick read.

message 70: by Erica (new)

Erica | 340 comments A request about the spreadsheet could you please fill in your audio column ie zeros if nothing read. Thank you.

message 71: by JessicaMHR (new)

JessicaMHR | 305 comments Just finished Starfish. Fabulous read! Will add it to the completed tab and see where it can fit.

Now to decide what to read next.... Love, Theoretically OR Firekeeper's Daughter????

message 72: by Erica (new)

Erica | 340 comments Oh I loved Starfish!

I finished The American Agent. I used it for a book relating to history & will let MJ use her book for "where a war is involved".

Katherine | 232 comments I have HOURS of work to do tonight... but I WILL finish The Taste of Ginger: A Novel !! :-) Then we will have our set in India prompt.

Erica | 340 comments What's the consensus on using Punching the Air, it's poetry, for the nonfiction prompt?

message 77: by Katherine (new)

Sorry, it's not commitment driving me here! It's sanity. Reading=Sanity. Sanity comes first! :-)

I'd prefer work to stay at work, but you can't predict when (union) members need assistance because management "goes nutso", and sadly, sub plans don't write themselves!

True, sanity does come first.

Sherri Harris | 1495 comments Erica wrote, "What's the consensus on using Punching the Air, it's poetry, for the nonfiction prompt" Goodreads has the genre as fiction.

message 80: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1495 comments Good Morning Team Ship. I want to take a moment to celebrate our accomplishments. We have read 6,131 pages & listened to 66 hours of audio. That's a lot. Thanks for the hard work.
We need one prompt for Parcheesi. A book with a two-word title. Does anyone know for sure if we don't count A, And, or The in titles? It's that way for the ATY challenge & it's been that way in the past. If not I have started a book that will count. I can't look up that rule right now but can later this morning if no one knows for sure.
We need one prompt for Risk. That is the war prompt. I believe MJ is working on that one. We need a nonfiction book for Trivial Pursuit.
I have started The Kitchen Front. I will add it to plans later this morning.

message 81: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments Yesterday I listened to 2 hours of audio and I only got to read 13 pages. Today should be a bit better.

I'm not sure if a poetry book would count as non-fiction. I was thinking it wouldn't count.

If a book is a two word title with an A or The then I could count it. For instance if I was reading The Institute then I would count that as a two word book. Because The Institute wouldn't be counted as a one word book.

message 82: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabeth1234561) | 223 comments I've got about 60 pages left of a two word title book so I should definitely have that done today!

message 83: by Edie (last edited Sep 14, 2023 09:57AM) (new)

Edie | 1144 comments I finished Tom Lake which was such a great read... and "spoiler alert" had me a bit teary eyed at the end. Used it for "book with a two word title" and that finished off Parcheesi.

message 84: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1495 comments Joan wrote "If a book is a two word title with an A or The then I could count it. For instance if I was reading The Institute then I would count that as a two word book. They are counting A, and, or the for this prompt so Joan was right on. Thank You.

message 85: by Erica (new)

Erica | 340 comments There I changed Why Fathers Cry At Night to the nonfiction prompt and filled the art/entertainment prompt with Punching the Air. All that is left for the first round of games is the War prompt.

message 86: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1495 comments Good Morning Team Ship. I will continue to read The Kitchen Front today & hope to finish tomorrow. If the war prompt isn't completed by then this book will work. I hope you all have a good Friday.

message 87: by MJ (new)

MJ | 947 comments Good morning! I have less than 100 pages left on the book slotted in for the war prompt. I should finish it tonight. . It’s not a quick read!

message 88: by Edie (new)

Edie | 1144 comments Completed . Put in Clue -"character makes a mistake" which was the only option that didn't already have 2 books slotted in for it.

message 89: by MJ (last edited Sep 15, 2023 07:05PM) (new)

MJ | 947 comments I have finished my book that fits the war prompt book! That prompt may have been filled in already though…

I hope to read one more book before the readathon ends but I’m not sure which one that will be!

Edit:
What do the orange and green colours mean on the completed page?

The involves war prompt is waiting for you to fill it in.

message 93: by JessicaMHR (new)

JessicaMHR | 305 comments Yesterday I was in a reading slump and realized in the evening so I decided to listen to my audiobook before bed so I didn't have a completely lost day of reading.

I am currently working on a non-fiction memoir and a two-word titled book.

message 94: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1495 comments Good Morning Team Ship. Congratulations on finishing round 1. I feel like there are more categories & prompts to fill for this read-a-thon so this has been more of a challenge. The ship is on auto pilot now. We're reading & listening for pages & finishing what prompts we can.
I'm still reading The Kitchen Front. I won't have time to read till after lunch so I may not finish today. If not I will finish Sunday for sure. Have a great Saturday.

MJ | 947 comments Sherri wrote: "Good Morning Team Ship. Congratulations on finishing round 1. I feel like there are more categories & prompts to fill for this read-a-thon so this has been more of a challenge. The ship is on auto ..."

You answered a question I didn’t ask! I was feeling a little deflated last night, thinking that we were done after the first “round” got completed!

And when I saw the first orange cell on the spreadsheet, I thought maybe it was pointing out an error!

I will fill in the spreadsheet soonish. It’s early morning here, and I have a cat on my lap who is preventing me from going to my laptop where I can update my sections of the spreadsheet.

Now I have to figure out what else I can read in the this weekend, now that I know there is no “finished.”

message 96: by MJ (new)

MJ | 947 comments After looking at the completed page, I'm going to read Small Days and Nights, which fits the "set in India" prompt.

I also want to read The Cat Who Saved Books, which will fit into my individual read-a-thon list, but I haven't looked at how it fits into the group list. I doubt I'll be able to finish both by tomorrow night.

Happy week-end everyone!

Mod Note: Quick reminder that you have until the end of the day on Monday to post your individual challenge in the completion thread. We only have 5ish entries submitted so far, so you have a great chance of getting picked to choose a prompt for our 2024 list! Just wanted to make sure this message reaches as many Read-a-Thon participants as possible... carry on with your team challenge!

message 98: by Joan (new)

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments I didn't get to read any pages yesterday but I listened to a book for 2 hours.

Hoping to completeBritt-Marie Was Here today and maybe read a graphic novel tomorrow that will help.

Thanks for the reminder, Emily. This weekend I will be concentrating on finishing my last book for the Individual Challenge, so fingers crossed, you will have at least one more entry.

Katherine | 232 comments Happy Saturday! I just finished Good Kings Bad Kings by Susan Nussbaum I put it in Clue for the color prompt because the cover is a good combination of Prof. Plum, Col. Mustard and Ms. Scarlet. Will read more for "rolls" today, but not sure if I'll finish anything else. Hopefully I'll finish my audiobook tomorrow.
