Please excuse me as I am new to the discussion groups, but I noticed that there is very little actual discussion. Like I thought we were discussing THE HUNGER GAMES in this discussion, but apparently we just tell everyone our favorite not main character from whatever book we choose. That isn’t really a discussion, is it? Or is it my perception of what a discussion should be?

I thought we were talking about the Hunger Games which I was confused on but it's okay because I was going to talk about them anyways... I think Katniss is a great character and I love how she willingly sacrificed herself as tribute for her sister, Prim. I also think that America from the Selection series is AMAZING because you really see character growth and her and Maxon are SO cute together!

I’m new here and this answer is clearly indecisive 🙄 but it’s hard to pick one. Loved Katniss and adorable Rue. Haymitch had his issues but loved him despite them. He held them together in important ways. Peeta was sweet and Effie is Effie and you have to love her for her consistency. Snow you loved to hate. I read this series 10 years ago and my favourite book was 3. Few agree with me.

One of my favorite Hunger Games characters was Finnick. I just adored him. I also loved Peta and I know many wanted Katniss to end up with Gale, but frankly I thought he was a real jerk. Katniss picked the better man when she picked the boy with the bread.

It's been a while since I read the series (which I thought was a masterpiece). Of course I loved Katniss the most. She was a very likeable MC. I thought Collins did a great job with the supporting characters, too. Hamish, Cinna, and that woman from the Capitol (I forget her name. She had colorful hair.) I liked how that woman was a product of the regime and of the cosmopolitan vortex, yet we saw glimpses of sympathy, caring, and dissatisfaction with the state of things through cracks in her make-up. ... Did you all read the prequel? That was good, too. It was Snow's story.

Besides the obvious love of Katniss, the secondary characters in this series were so strong. Personal favorites being Cinna & Rue for me. They were so important that despite being killed off, their influence remains central to the story & Katniss. I've reread this series so many times...I taught it and then reread it more recently with a grandson. (I may be too old for this discussion group.)

My favorite characters outside of the main ones are Bogs, Finnick, Haymitch, Effie but also the villain President Snow. This book has some resemblance to the modern world we live in, only it's not as brutal

I think Haymitch had PTSD from having “been there done that” in the ugliness and death. He knew there was no glory and hated looking at the death, and especially hated being looked at as a hero.

I don't think it's possible to not love Rue. She was incredibly brave and young and she saved Katniss. She also heart-breakingly died and became the spark that provoked the first true overt rebellion since district 13. Katniss was the symbol of the rebellion. Rue was the fire. That portrait of her lying in the field of flowers.

Agree with Cinna being incredible. The first in the capitol to acknowledge that congratulations was not in order. That was another heart breaking moment. For someone to see her fear and feel her pain and care. He saw her potential really before anyone else did. And he stood behind her openly, damn the consequences.

I also love the snark so include Haymitch, Finnick, Johanna and of course, Effie.
