Tien (tiensblurb) | 1641 comments I'm ready for my roll (1) too, please :)

I've spent the weekend in my oodie (it's still rather too cold for a silk pj here...) but I'm loving all those prints!

So there's been some confusion about this, and I just answered it for someone else.

"Any combination totaling 7: You move 7 spaces and stay on that space, but you may read the book you land on OR one book forward or one book back - - your choice."

This rule was written when there was one board. The person isn't moving an extra 7 spaces. The special thing about it is you get a choice on what to read.

That same concept applies on subsequent boards.

So, if someone is on the original board, they rolled a seven, they move seven spaces, and they can read one of the three books - - the one they landed on, or the one in front or in back of the one they landed on.

If you are on subsequent boards, you've moved the seven spaces already (the 6 - for which you read a book already - and then the 1), and NOW, you may do the special part of reading one of three books - - either the one you landed upon with your 1. Or the one behind it. Or the one in front of it.

I just want to be clear that you do not get to move an extra 7 spaces. The special part is the reading choice not any additional forward movement.

Let me know if this needs more clarification!

Thanks for the clarification Anita, that is what I assumed. Sadly, specials are not my forte' as Ursula ignores me when it comes to doling them out

Thanks Anita. I didn’t think she meant she was moving 7 extra spaces, so thanks for clarifying that.

I was afraid it would be me, as I am on space 99 of my current board and really didn't want to go back! I guess having it twice on this board was enough for Ursula.

It seems like Theresa should write advertising or screenplays or something with her clever ideas. I bet many of us will refer to train cars and the evil Ursula even when this challenge is over.

Theresa | 15524 comments I need to get ready to head out in the rain for my IRL Feminerdy Book Club, so a few quick acknowledgements:

@Anita - thanks - NOW it makes sense! Like JoAnne, Ursula keeps me mostly out of the special rolls and the only other time I got the 'Roll 7' option was one of my first rolls on Clerk in January. Will update my board properly when I return - I will be on my Porter #20 and likely reading that book.

@Robin - I very nearly refered to the randomizer being used in a summer challenge in another group as Ursula! It is happening! I do write for a living -- as a lawyer. Maybe not always as entertainingly, but definitely building storylines that need to be carried through.

@Tien - have CGI Tom show you the fannel and fleece lined silks and, imported from the Gujurat in India, the double sided silk/wool loungers with accompanying robes. I am sure you will find a cozy ensemble to suit.

message 112: by Joy D (new)

Joy D | 10081 comments Thanks for the rule clarification, Anita. Just for the record, I did not move any extra spaces, just had a choice of 3 books. It's good to know that I interpreted it correctly.

message 113: by Anita (new)

Anita Pomerantz | 9280 comments I looked back at your link and was very happy to see you did interpret correctly! I think Theresa may also be interpreting it correctly, but I want to make it extra clear just in case!

message 114: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12916 comments Starting my next Subdue Book Today. Its Porter 38. I seem to have lost track of the train. Except that all my buddies are there in the second class lounge with me, and everyone seems to have silk pajamas on. Especially the men, which I have absolutely no objection to.

I tend to prefer a silky negligee set with robe, myself, but I fear that might not be appropriate for the train - so what the hell, order me some silk pajamas as well. I think I prefer a beautiful purple, although a burgundy, blue, or green might be next choices. Save Grnarly and I a seat on a chaise. I am settling in with Midnight Train to Paris. Oh - and did you see two books flying out the windows? HayJay and I just threw Peach Spring Blossom right off of the train! Notes for CGI Tom and the Cabana Boys: Go bring Hannah and Robin a drink from me as a thank you. And put a pretty umbrella in it. And send a nice warm croissant or scone to HayJay for me. In fact, pass them around to everyone as a wonderful Sunday morning treat. Lemon Scones anyone? Pumpkin for Fall? Chocolate Croissant? Looks like a glorious day.

message 118: by Theresa (last edited Sep 10, 2023 03:14PM) (new)

Theresa | 15524 comments While waiting for my fellow Feminerdists, I updated my tracking and checked tags. Ursula clearly liked the silk loungers - my book at #20 not only matches monthly tag, it has enough to earn me extra dice to use in future AND gives me a literary fiction read for this month I can fit in. I already have NF, fantasy, and crime fiction to read by month end, two of them honkers, and even I could not color any of them as Lit Fic. Plus I own a copy of it and already found it in the TBR Towers!

The bribe gift was a success.

The book is The Stationery Shop.

Hooray, I am off my board! I don't remember if I just use the roll to go onto the next board? That is, I was on #99 so now I will be on #4 of the next board? Or is there something else I need to do? I will post the next board in any case.

Amy, could you please update your personal board-you still show yourself on number 32- I do have you on the correct #38, however it makes keeping track easier for me if your board shows you in the correct spot-Thanks, and blessings to you on this lovely Sunday afternoon.

Ursula has definitely had an eagle eye on you and the cackles heard when she rolls should serve as warning! I think she wants you using up all those accrued advantages. Maybe she won't recognize you 8n the new uniform going forward.

message 125: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12916 comments I bolded number 38. I think that because you have to post your review before asking for a new roll, I never know the next step before the next day or two. And I don't generally go that thread in between reviews. But happy to make sure it happens in a more timely fashion.

I have another conversation to start - but where? Kaffeeklatch?

Thanks, I have my new board under the Engineer thread, BUT
I just realized my last 2 rolls were 6, 5. Therefore I have to read a book on someone else's board before my next roll! And here I thought I was finally done. I will read a book from Theresa's Clerk board - Auntie Poldi and the Sicilian Lions. I picked this up randomly at a used bookstore some months ago, but it hasn't been on any of my boards.

Amy | 12916 comments I think I still really don’t know who the troublemaker actually is. I was too embarrassed to tell you I had no idea. I think it’s burns me on this evening to admit that, is the knowledge that surely, my transgression of failure to bold in between reviews could not cause me to gain such infamous status. Although I do wish to remain on the good side of train management. I better get my embolding practice in order. But it did make me wonder who our sassy reader actually is……. LoL- and here I thought you were joking that you did not know that it is I who is this Sassy person whom Theresa refers to. Surly you have noticed the love/hate sister relationship we have cultivated here-

And please, I did not mean to call you out, merely suggest that your board needed updating. Perhaps I should have sent a private message, *sigh* That is an issue of this Sassy Reader, the words go from my mind to either my lips or the keyboard and once that is done, there is no getting them back, Deleting a post is not something I would ever do, just not in my play book. Sassy, I am with full disclosure.

Sassy = Smart Ass that needs a firm hand occasionally to keep that sassy edge honed. 😉.

Theresa | 15524 comments Amy wrote: " I better get my embolding practice in order..."

Look at it this way, Amy - if one of us gets the opportunity to move you 15 spaces, your bolded location on your board makes it easier to pick a book to move you to. Since that could happen at any time, you want your board kept currently emboldened.

message 135: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12916 comments Theresa, excellent point!!!!!! I guess I'd better knock out all the books I've already read 15 ahead as well.

Theresa | 15524 comments 🎇🎇🎇IT'S ANITA'S INDEPENDENCE DAY! 🎇🎇🎇

To celebrate having Anita back with us less stressed, happy, and full time, we are having a Subdue Express PAJAMA PARTY!
Yes, the ENTIRE TRAIN!

Anita of course is the guest of honor and will be waited on hand and foot by CGI Tom personally.

Everyone (you too, Anita!) gets new loungers, robes, pjs in whatever style, color/pattern, fabric, size they want. The Wardrobe Attendant from Royal Coach will be by with the firefighters from 2nd Class Lounge rolling the racks behind them to supply you. This is a magical wardrobe and the racks will produce whatever you desire.

Manicurists will be setting up in each car to give manis/pedis. PIzza 🍕 will be delivered. Appropriate snacks and beverages will be flowing freely - but first there will be champagne toasts to welcome back our Anita! 🍾🥂

Cabanna Boys have promised there will be streaming of any movies you wish - personally I find a LOTR marathon to be perfect chickfilm viewing - all those hunky men! - but I defer to the majority.

Joy's Magical Games and Puzzles Trunk will be rolled through the car by the staff of the Royal Coach and First Class and Parlor Cars.

OOOH, I see fresh baked brownies and cookies arriving on the platform - plenty for all! No need to stampede!

After all, CGI Tom's Black Amex Card is paying for it all - no limits!

Anita's Faves up first - so spill!

Amy has dancing shoes - her playlist is up next. What's on it?

Let's hear from everyone - what would be on your playlist? Salsa or merengue? The Twist? Disco with Donna Summers? Album from Dirty Dancing? Or Mamma Mia?

@Nancy - what would be on yours? Personally I start with the Pointer Sisters.
