Rachel N. | 2254 comments Florence Darrow is working as an assistant to an editor in new York City. When she's fired she ends up being offered a job as assistant to Helen Wilcox who writes books under the pseudonym Maud Dixon. Only Florence and Helen's editor know Helen's true identity. This book is a psychological thriller but for over half the book not much happens, except getting to meet two annoying characters. The end was interesting but it didn't make up for the extremely slow start and the fact that I couldn't stand Florence or Helen.

Amy | 12956 comments I think I liked it more than you. I got quite involved with it.

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11154 comments I don't remember what I rated it, but I thought it was a fun read. I listened to the audio and it had a lot of energy and some humor. I know sometimes the line between funny and annoying can be very thin. (For me, it's partly dependent on my mood.)

When I saw the description for Yellow Face (which my book club has tentatively scheduled), I wondered if it has a similar plot, with the added cultural appropriation angle.
