Halloween Roundup - 8 - Slayers of a Certain Age

I had to complete a book I was not planning on reading for a challenge. So I am back on track now. I will be posting Creep tomorrow and I will be posting my corpse book the next day. I should be finished with my star book by Tuesday. Sorry for the delay!
Reminder: Everyone should read at least one task per monster. Nobody should read a whole chain by themselves. This is rule #1.

Creep / Jennifer Hillier 9/25/23
and
Pretty Corpse / 9/26/23
Should finish The Christmas Star: A Love Story tomorrow.

Our tracking post is updated.
Gail, I'll head over to the buddy read in a bit too :)

I have finished Raining Men and Corpses
I have finished Stolen
That finishes all my body parts for Frankenstein!

Vampires are undead creatures that survive by drinking blood. Some folklore says that they can be warded off with things like garlic, mustard seeds, crucifixes, rosaries, or holy water. They also claim that vampires cannot walk on consecrated ground or in sunlight. They must be invited into your home before they can come and go as they please. Killing a vampire is usually done by staking them with wood, preferably Ash, or by decapitation.
To capture the vampire, complete the following tasks
Arm 1: Create a chain of 3 using titles or series with the word "vampire"
Arm 2: Create a chain of 3 using books with all the letters 'ASH' in the title (any order)
Leg 1 Create a chain of 3 books with a cross or crucifix on the cover or in the title
Leg 2 Create a chain of 3 books with a red cover (minimum 50%)

Lori and I are not clear on this - do you know if Lori and I can read the same book for vampire and then also read another book together for the cross and the crucifix?

I don't see why not - that fits the rules :)
Checking in to see how this team is doing. GR is wonky to say the least. Let me know if I can help.

Happy reading!

I am working on an afghan for my daughter in laws sister. It is 49 squares and I am on the 7th. Between editing, beta reading , and reading for challenges, sadly knitting has been low on the list. Wish I could knit and read at the same time.....my mom could!

I can't really either. I used to have a roommate who could read and knit - she was a math professor, so used to take great pleasure in knitting moebius scarves - lol. Being able to knit and read is the main reason I started listening to audiobooks.
I've been wanting to start a blanket made of squares for a while, so more power to you! Are you using a pattern or...?

Seed Stitch
Garter Ridge
Checkerboard
Eyelet
Bee
I have worked it so that no square is next to one like it so for example seed stitch will not be next to another seed stitch. The is in all nature colors....green/blue, several shades of taupe, pink/orange I can't say what color it is and a few other squares of different natural colors will pop up here and there.

I doubt it - we're having fun and taking our time :)

For the red cover I did The Complete Sookie Stackhouse Stories by
Charalaine Harris. Would you like me to update the Spreadsheet. I am also reading Vampire Academy...likely have this finished this weekend.
On another subject, would be you be interested in teaming with Gail, Me, and our friend Sabina in a Christmas Challenge (trivia) in Hooked on Books? Gail has the information.
Did you get my email with the pics?
Have a great weekend. Lori

First off - I got the blanket pics Lori - it is going to look so great when all assembled! I love the different textures of the blocks - makes we want to do something like that but maybe with tonal colors ... hmm. I just got invited to 2 niece baby showers - 1 in November and the other mid-December, so I am going back and forth between ravelry and yarn.com to put projects together.
Also - I'd love to join you guys for a Christmas trivia game over at HOB! I'm doing a couple other challenges over there now - so sign me up! thanks :)

So very happy that you are joining us for the Christmas trivia. It's great having you as part of our team and the chance to get to know you even better.

go on and read the rest of the series at some point. I haven't
updated the spread sheet. So I am ready for our next Monster
whenever you ladies are :)

I've been waiting for Vampires of El Norte to come off hold at the library, but no more - I'll have my last two tasks done by the weekend.

Book/Author: The Vanishing Hour
Author: Seraphina Nova Glass
Read: 11/04/23
304 pages
Justification: Letters ASH in the word Vanishing

Spreadsheet has been updated.

Arm 1: Create a chain of 3 using titles or series with the word "witch"
Arm 2: Create a chain of 3 books with a character that is a healer
Leg 1: Create a chain of 3 books starting with a letter in Salem (you must decide as a team which letter to use and use the same letter)
Leg 2: Create a chain of 3 using consecutive series numbers (123)
I'll be finishing a #2 in series book soon, but can do any # as needed.
My vote for SALEM letter would be S
:)

Witches were perceived by early Christians as evil even though many were simply healers or were misunderstood. This witch hysteria led to the infamous Salem Witch Trials when women were accused of all sorts of things. Modern-day Wiccans avoid evil and any appearance of evil at all costs.
To catch the witch complete the following tasks:
Arm 1: Create a chain of 3 using titles or series with the word "witch"
Arm 2: Create a chain of 3 books with a character that is a healer
Leg 1: Create a chain of 3 books starting with a letter in Salem (you must decide as a team which letter to use and use the same letter)
Leg 2: Create a chain of 3 using consecutive series numbers (123)
Example Chain: The Hunger Games (book 1) | Insurgent (book 2) | City of Glass (book 3)

I have been doing all my mittens and socks on flexi-flip needles. DPNs made me tense and the magic loop method was just not my jam. That's awesome about the afghan! I'm planning on starting a bigger blanket soon - thinking https://www.ravelry.com/projects/emma...
And maybe someday, I'll take on: https://www.ravelry.com/projects/Elle...
