This is the second book in a delightful fantasy series about a little girl who was brought up to believe that she was cursed. She is now in a Magical school, but she still has reason to question who or what she really is. The series has some obvious links to Harry Potter, but it's extremely creative and well done in it's own right. It has a great balance of pathos and joy, and interesting relationships. I didn't expect to find moral dilemmas in this book, but there a couple interesting issues that several of the characters had to deal. One of them involved a difficult decision for all the members of her group, both individually and together.
I liked that there are no cliff hangers. Instead, the author begins to set the stage for the next year so you have an idea of the next level in the story. I'll try not to wait 4 years to read the next book. I read several non-fiction, challenging, or depressing books this month, and this book felt like a wonderful new dessert to reward me for eating my liver and spinach.
