I picked up this book as one of many new YA novels that looked interesting to read, and when I started it I knew it would fit a category for the reading challenge - I just didn't expect it to fit this category!

The magic in this book is a bit of surreal magical realism, and it doesn't overwhelm the story. I wouldn't say I was dreading this category, but I wasn't exactly excited about it either. Anyhow, the magical aspect was a pleasant surprise for me, and in a dose that I really don't mind.

I read a lot of YA, and this is one of the better I've read lately.

I did not expect the magic in this book either. Kind of an interesting twist that just added to the greatness of this book.
