S | 3 comments Apologies if this might violate the "one book only" rule, but if anyone can suggest scifi books (or even movies/tv show episodes) that match the basic theme written prior to 2007, I would greatly appreciate it.

Basically any science fiction (or fantasy) novel/short story including the theme of "physical contact with or closeness to an alien/extra terrestrial artifact causes the person(s) to have visions (e.g. of the future, the past, alien civilizations, technology etc)"

Thank you.

Pony Xaviors (ponyxaviors) | 389 comments That makes me think of the TV series "Smallville." That premise happens on the episode, "Relic," which is the sixth episode of the third season. I don't think I've personally read any books with that plot device though 🤔

@all:
Any more suggestions would be welcome!

Knits Reads Games Sings (knitsreadsgamessings) | 32 comments The various Stargate TV series have these ancient artifacts called "communication stones" that basically swap the minds of the two beings holding a matching pair. They come up in various episodes in both SG1 and Atlantis, but are a major plot element for Universe, as they're the only way they have to contact Earth. Not sure if that's close enough, but thought I'd mention it.

Still looking for some books that feature it.

Knits Reads Games Sings (knitsreadsgamessings) | 32 comments The Well of Moments appears to be this, and it's a novel in a series about paranormal alien objects.

In Ghost Planet the planet somehow links every colonist to an alien that takes the form of a dead loved one. Similar enough?

Per TVTropes, the Ambergris series has alien mushrooms which, when allowed to grow on a corpse and are then consumed, transfer the dead person's memories.

This has been really frustrating, because although I feel I've read this more than once, I'm coming up empty on where!

In terms of other media, these two TV show episodes employ this idea:

Thank you ... I will check these out too.

"This has been really frustrating, because although I feel I've read this more than once, I'm coming up empty on where! " <-- That's exactly the situation I'm in ... It feels like such an overused trope in Scifi and Fantasy, yet when I have to come with examples, I cannot find any.
