Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Sad news. 😪

Critterbee has been very busy in both her work & personal life & has made the decision to step down as a moderator. I'm hoping that Critterbee will remain a member of our group though! I'm going to miss moderating with her so much! No one could be easier to work with! & such a genuinely nice person.

& some of you are aware that I have been wanting to stand down for a few months now. I have been moderating this group since April 2015 & I am starting to feel a bit stale. I have asked some members to take over from me. One was interested but the timing wasn't right for her, the other two politely declined. If anyone is interested please message me. You don't need to be a long time member (I was only a member a short time before I became moderator) just love GH's works (well most of them - there are some that even their creator didn't like!) If no one is interested I will stay on, but after November will no longer organise the monthly reads. Instead we just read what we want & can just pull up the old threads & see if anyone else wants to have a mini discussion!

Edit; Much to my surprise I could remove Critterbee as the moderator. I thought only Christy B could do that. (she was the creator of the group)

QNPoohBear | 1638 comments Aww! It's understandable and it would be sad to lose you both. Critterbee has been an asset to the GH community and I hope she stays too. I don't have the time or inclination to step up right now either.

Abigail Bok (regency_reader) Big round of thanks to Critterbee—and to Carol—for their service to this community!

Thanks QNPB! I'm hoping Critterbee will be back (as a member)! :)

I've got nothing to add to this ... but a big round teardrop.

Lesley Thank you both. Without good Mods a group doesn't flourish.

Lol!

If I may make a suggestion? You’ve all done a wonderful job, but both have upcoming commitments for the rest of the year - perhaps put the group on hold, regroup in mid-late December and see where we are as to interest, potential mods willing to take over? Meanwhile, as Carol suggested, read and comment in existing threads. I know everyone gets rather hectic as the holidays approach, no need for firm decisions immediately. Just a thought, tell me to hush if a new mod has come forth to share your load, dearest Carol!

That is sound thinking, Susan in NC. There are a lot of distractions between now and the end of this year, and from my end, this year hasn't been the best, particularly with finding my neighbour of 28 years dead a couple of weeks ago. My concentration hasn't been that good, and not likely to improve quickly with all the goings on from that.
Maybe with a rest from it all, Carol will feel refreshed enough to carry on, but maybe not so intensively. Perhaps organised group reads on alternate months, with the group reading and commenting in existing threads as the desire takes them.

Thank you, Lesley, and I am so terribly sorry, that is awful, and I’m sure you’re having a tough time. Please be kind to yourself, that is a traumatic thing to go through.

I agree with your “alternate month” readings, I think that is a fine idea for carrying on. I think many of us have read our favorites with the group, maybe a couple times! We’ve had new members joining our lovely group, contributing fresh viewpoints on Heyer’s work, and sharing our enthusiasm and enjoyment. I’d love to hear their thoughts on which books we haven’t read since they’ve joined that they would like to read and discuss.

Barb in Maryland | 816 comments Susan in NC and Lesley both raised some good points. I like the idea of taking a break. Sad to say, but I am currently burned out on Heyer.
Maybe her books will regain their appeal for me after a few months off.

message 17: by Susan in NC (new)

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 4143 comments Thanks, Barb - I’ve found, even when I’m reading a beloved author, if I’m really on a tear and binge on them, I eventually do feel the need to read something else for a bit. A break can be good! ;)

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Lesley, that is awful! I will try to ring you later on today.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ Thanks for all the nice comments & ideas.

& I like a lot of the ideas given - except I would still like to read Bath Tangle for September. It's not my favourite, but I think it will raise some good discussion points. & some members may have already arranged for their copy.

But someone has messaged me who is interested in becoming a mod.

I am just about to contact her so stay tuned!

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 4143 comments Yay! Oh, definitely still read our September Heyer. Keep us posted, Carol!
