I LOVE her! She is so sweet and I love how she just wears what she likes and doesn't care if it matches or not.

Adrienne L I wish Foxy was my neighbor.

Adrienne L @Juli I'm at 37%, chapter 8, shortly after the gruesome discovery in the woods.

I'm at 42% now and I still don't know what's going on! It's such a mystery and I love every bit of it!

Is The Twisted Ones based on The White People? I don't know that book. Should I have read that as well?

message 58: by Adrienne L (new)

Adrienne L It's a take on Arthur Machen's short story The White People. I don't think its necessary to read the story to understand the book, but I sort of had wished I re-read The Willows by Algernon Blackwood before I read The Hollow Places.

I have read all of those this year as well! I also second [book:The Hollow Places
as my favorite followed by Nettle & Bone, which I read last year. I enjoy her books throughly!

The Willows is one of my favorites! Probably explains why I love Hollow Places so much.

Oh really? Is it spoilery? I actually started it this afternoon, but maybe I'll wait to finish.

I'll have to look for it in one of my classic ghost story anthologies and give it a re-read. I remember liking it a lot, but I do love a lot of those old stories.

message 77: by Ash (new)

Ash | 90 comments Excited this popped up on my feed as a buddy read. I really enjoyed this book and actually bought it as an audiobook. So I've listened to it a few times now. I love seeing everyone else's thoughts on it.

message 78: by Adrienne L (new)

Adrienne L Hi Ash, welcome to our buddy read! This is my first time reading this one. Have you read other books by Kingfisher?

message 79: by Adrienne L (new)

Adrienne L I just finished! The ending dragged a bit for me and I didn't find it as funny as some of the previous books, but I loved the relationship with Bongo and Foxy is a great character. I would love a sequel with her.

Here is my review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Adrienne L Thanks Kimberly :)

message 82: by Juli (new)

Juli | 107 comments @Adriennelee, wow you’re fast! I’m still at 66% but I do think I’ll finish the book this week. I’ll read your review after I’m done.

message 83: by Adrienne L (new)

Adrienne L Take your time Juli! I was lucky to have a lot of free time to read this weekend, and I can read a bit when work is slow too, which it has been.

I FULLY agree with the dragging end. Mouse's inner thoughts and wanting to (repeatedly) burst out laughing, started to annoy me a bit. It was repeated so many times. I didn't see the ending coming so that was good. I absolutely loved Foxy and Bongo as well. I'm giving it 3 out of 5 stars.

Yeah, I didn't find it as funny as The Hollow Places or A House With Good Bones, but I definitely enjoyed it.

I will look for your review. Thanks for buddy reading this with me!

message 87: by Juli (new)

Juli | 107 comments @Adriennelee Yeah, I agree. The other books were funnier but this wasn’t bad at all! I don’t write reviews (yet) since I’m new to reading. Thank you for buddy reading with me as well! If you have more books you’d like to buddy read, let me know.

message 88: by Juli (new)

Juli | 107 comments Since we are done with the twisted ones, is the buddy read for Wylding Hall going to commence? Is that still on?

message 89: by Adrienne L (new)

Adrienne L I'm up for it whenever everyone else is ready. I have a couple of books I want to finish and get to, and I'm planning on reading Lacuna's Point for the September group read, but I can squeeze it in whenever.

Same here--sometime after the first week of September might be better... Also planning on getting in Lacuna's Point. :)
@Latasha?

message 91: by Juli (new)

Juli | 107 comments Ah yes, I almost forgot about Lacuna’s Point. This will be my first author buddy read! I still want to buddy read Wylding Hall as well. I got both books. :))

Adrienne L How about a buddy read for Wylding Hall after the Halloween Challenge is over, sometime in November, for whoever wants to jump in?
