Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard question

While talking to my brother, I found out that he thought Hearthstone was a girl when he first started reading these books (just for like the first couple of chapters). I had thought the same thing. Is this a common thing? Or just us?
To be clear I’m in no way trying to pass any judgement here, just curious :-)
