I feel the same way as you do with my feelings towards Madison. To me her Mr. Hyde comes out when someone close to her is in danger some way. I would really like to know a little bit more of her family background. Did her mother do the same as she did and that's why the father had to be be killed b/c he wouldn't put up with it. Would she have been different if her father was still around???

Yes, but also mitigating circumstances, they weaved in front of her on the interstate, braking. If caught she could plead fear for her life...she was shook, pulled over, thought she locked herself out, they came after her, she fled, she defended herself. It's her word against yours lol...cough cough, I mean them, those dead ones- and dead men tell no tales. I say she gets off easy. What jury would convict poor Madison for defending herself? Hmm..I'll have to look at that again :)

C.J. I rotate them every month, but you might get a kick from seeing your poignant feedback displayed to the masses (no name attribution allowed...Amazon rules ;) But I thank everyone!

Chris | 732 comments I'm not sure if it was mentioned in the previous book if Brittany knows what Madison has done and if she does do you think she would say anything to the authorities. Richie was the only one that broke from the brat pack.

I am going to re-read the first book, because you maybe right Chris, I don't believe that Britt knows EVERYTHING....Britt was shocked to find out about the killing in her house that she rented to Madison...

message 58: by C.J. (new)

C.J. Heigelmann (cjheigelmann) | 241 comments I believe you are all right. Madison divulges partial murders, but holds back the full monte from Britt...the closest family-like support she has left in the world. I think she didn't want to disappoint her. I'll check again.

Great observation! It is a fundamental question of nurture vs nature and therein hides the answer...in book III :)

Chris | 732 comments Well the name that she was given was taken from mythology. That is why I brought up cults. Either that or it's a family thing.

Correct! Norse mythology of the Germanic people's. Stories Poppa Francis would have heard as a child, and his father, and grandfather, who immigrated from Prussia. I wonder if the cult clan founders used the legend of the Valkyries as inspiration. Hmm. The Vanguards? What about them? Wow, book 3 has a lot of explaining to do! :)

Kim Schramm | 1 comments Hi all! I just finished read both of CJ Heigelmann’s books, Can’t Hide What’s Inside and Can’t Stop What’s Inside. I am anxiously awaiting to read more of Madison’s story. If I can’t get into a book within the first few pages, there is no sense continuing. These books pulled me right in from the start, and was so happy I had a second book ready when I finished with the first. Great characters and story lines!!

Kim, I am so glad that your here, and you have read NOT 1, BUT Both books. I hope you chime in on what you have to say about dear ole Maddy, and Britt,,,and don't forget the book review.....

message 65: by Chris (new)

Chris | 732 comments I am hoping the 3rd book explains her family a little more so we can understand where all this craziness came from. Really curious about Madison's growing up years. For some reason I think Madison and hubby are going to be asked to be group leaders hmmmm.

message 66: by C.J. (new)

C.J. Heigelmann (cjheigelmann) | 241 comments Poppa Francis has commissioned them. Marching orders given. Punishment for their failure is implicit. Bring her back...alive.

C.J. Heigelmann (cjheigelmann) | 241 comments How about funny or laughable instances from the book. I must admit, I had to add a few comedic interludes during serious moments at times. For example. When Madison visits Alex the first time and calls for a cooling off/I'm moving away period and he tells her about the attempt on his life. Madison says she won't allow them to hurt him. He says, "What are you going to do, make them lust to death?" Typically smarty pants attitude and under-estimation of a woman's ability...to bring that heat. Well she brought the heat to Ricci...leaving him departed from this world, holding the very thing that put him in that final situation. I laughed at that myself! 🤗

I was waiting for your take on who should play who. On another note I left my review on Amazon and it took me a heck of time trying to find the book. I swear my computer has a mind of its own lol.

Ha! Yes, Madison debates having a drink, gets scared, she feels funny...Britts like, "Maybe you're ovulating," Madison's looking at the door, "Hush! he might hear you!" Then chickens out hehe. Madison and Alex could blame some of that on the alcohol.

I like the list. I'd only change 2 characters if I were the producer.

Max: Cole Hauser (must have a beard until the shave scene.)
Poppa Francis: Robert Duvall (His age fits, and he never really played the antagonist before..except the Great Santini.)

C.J. Heigelmann (cjheigelmann) | 241 comments Actually I think Spader is growing on me as Poppa Francis. I had never considered that.

Chris | 732 comments Gary Busey as Poppa just looking at him you know he's crazy. He doesn't even have to open his mouth.

Ha! Good one! Busey has always had that kooky-crazy persona and also has the years on him now, over 80 years old.

I looked up her photo and Hailee and Zoe do make a good bff duo. I only remember movies from years ago, so a lot of the new actors are unknown to me lol.

How about Walken at his current age? He could make a decent Poppa Francis as well.

I can see Kravitz playing in this, but I also see Jennifer who played in the Hunger Games. One of the Jona's brothers, can't remember his name, but the recent one who is getting a divorce.

I picture Walken as Poppa because what comes to mind is the scene in Deerhunter when he is playing Russian Roulette. How about James Woods as Poppa.

Great analysis, Ruth. I was impressed about the devoation to family. This book was a great continuation of the first book. I was really impressed to see the emotional maturity from the first book to the second book for the main character.

Sometimes I feel that when folks do bad, they do a cover-up kinda thing, you know, like trying to balance out why they kill, and then go volunteer at the local Church. So when you get caught, then someone can say...........
" She/He was a good child, He/She would walk Ms. Johnson to the corner store, help Billy with his homework, and help walk Sadie the dog around the block, I never knew he/she was killing in another section of town"...

message 83: by Jimmie (new)

Jimmie | 302 comments There is a big difference between the BTK killer who was a deacon at his chuch to Madison who was trying to survive life. Although Madison had a special gift from her family, she did not use that gift to further the cult like family ideology. Yet, Madison cared for her child and wanted her life to be better than hers. That in a nutshell is the American dream!
