SOLVED. Adult Historical Romance. Hero rescues heroine/ wins a bet by retrieving something out of a circled off area without entering the circle. Spy or investigation element? [s]

This is a long shot. I have a specific scene stuck in my head, but I cannot remember much more about the book or its name.

It is a historical romance wherein the hero recues the heroine/wins a bet by retreiving something (I think a jewel or the heroine herself?) out of a circled off area, that they are not physically allowed to enter (touch the floor within the circle). A bunch of people try to accomplish the task, but everyone fails but the hero. I believe the task was watched by others and bet upon. The person who set up the task was a very rich/not so nice gentleman.

As I said longshot... any help would be appreciated!

Are there any books that you think is similar to this one?

Can you think of maybe what the cover of the book looks like?

I wish I could remember more but everything else about the book is a blur. I feel like there was a spy or investigation element to the plot. I also believe that the hero and heroine had to pretend not to know each other at this party/club. I think the heroine may have been under a marriage contract or contract of some sort possibly as well.
