Troy nodded quickly, not wanting to cause any problems. As Xander walked into the kitchen, he went over and sat down on the couch, crossing his legs and sighing quietly. He fidgeted with the hem of his shirt as he thought, suddenly very aware of the fact that he was in a near-stranger's house. Though he logically knew that it was unlikely Xander would try to hurt him, or even be able to if he tried, there was a lingering anxiety in the back of his mind.
The hairs on the back of his neck stood up as he overheard bits of the conversation going on in the kitchen, not catching all the words, but more so reacting to the anger in Xander’s tone. He kept his reaction contained, though, remaining still and quiet on the couch and waiting for Xander to come back.
Troy winced away from Xander’s frustration without really realizing, then rolled his shoulders lightly and looked over at him. “Oh, it’s alright- it’s fine.” He assured, with a nod for good measure.
“Uhm…” he faltered. What was he supposed to say? ’Oh, actually, you’ve just taken a bum into your house. I don’t have a real job.’ But that seemed likely to get him yelled at, so he thought up something, mentioning something that he would honestly be quicker to consider his ‘side gig’ than his art, even though it probably brought in more money. “I help the local high schoolers. Math stuff. Tutoring.”
“I’ve never watched once before, so you, um, you can pick.” He said, shrugging.
“Okay!” He said, hoping to match Xander’s enthusiasm. He was excited, just confused and kind of nervous as well, this being a very new situation for him.
