Kim Isada I would like to read "Don Quixote", and have noticed that it has been translated by numerous people over the years. I have been reading about some of the translations, and am interested in knowing if anyone has a favorite to recommend.

Thanks.

Taylor Napolsky Just happened to notice this but you're lucky I did, because the categorical answer is Edith Grossman's. It's usually tough picking translations but with this book, not so hard.

Laura Herzlos Oh thanks for the tip! A friend of mine asked some time ago, and I had to say I had no clue.

Kim Isada Thanks so much, Taylor. I read an article about Edith Grossman's translation. I also saw an interesting article on the top 13 translations - there were samples of each one (the same sentence, translated by 13 different people).

Lyn I read the first part by the 1700's Tobias Smollett, the second part from the more current editor Edith Grossman. I thoroughly enjoyed Grossman'version, but had a bit of a struggle plowing through the old English language useage with Smollett.
