Christina | 29 comments I really enjoyed it! The story was so interesting. It tells a story about a young girl living her life in the South (I wanna say Alabama, US) and her family. She’s got a brother and a father who is a pretty good lawyer. They’ve got a neighbor that never leaves his house and the children make up theories about him since it’s so mysterious. There’s another plot line as well, the town is racist but the father agrees to defend a black man that had been accused of raping a white woman. The trial occurs and afterwards there is trouble with the accusing family and the lawyers family. The mystery neighbor appears here again. It ends with the young girl learning a life lesson. I believe the reason the book is so popular is because of the lessons of racism and humanity.
