Rainbowheart | 28553 comments This just started today! It's affecting hundreds of authors and hundreds of books.

The GR catalog has for some inexplicable reason started listing foreign language editions as the default editions. Is anyone in charge aware of this?

As if the Amazon bot wasn't bad enough, this will destroy the utility of Listopia if it's not corrected soon. :(

I noticed this. GR tech has really gone into the crapper. I have no idea if they've noticed (but how could they not?), since there's no Feedback group anymore.

I searched for "Ulysses" the novel today and dozens of pages of results came up......the one by James Joyce wasn't until p. 10 of the search results. Absolute crap. The search function has always been weak, but it was never THAT bad previously.

Rainbowheart | 28553 comments Still broken. :(

Instead of showing the most popular edition as the default, it seems to have switched to showing the least popular edition? Or at least that's as close as I can figure.

Absolutely useless for finding books. Is there any comment on the Librarian group about this?

... or the most recently added "edition."

message 5: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28553 comments That could be! I've been trying to figure out the rhyme or reason.

I guess this means we shouldn't expect any fixes until after the weekend. In the meantime, no one should be doing duplicate checks on Listopia. It's going to convert everything to foreign languages.

Liralen | 766 comments They're aware: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

But you're right that there doesn't seem to be much movement on it.

message 8: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28553 comments Oh, good, glad they are aware. They say developers are working on it, so that's promising.

Thanks, Liralen!

GreatPlains The discussion from the thread above was started in 2019. Crazy how it remains unfixed.

Aleksander | 129 comments I've also noticed that some sort of related weirdness is happening with the recommendation function. For some reason certain books (even when by American authors and originally published in English) will lead to recommendations in other languages. Biggest one i've noticed from my list is Aristotle and Dane Dive into the Waters of the World by Benjamin Alire Saenz leading to exclusively recs in Polish for some unknown reason???? I hope that its a related issue to this and that the devs are working on it

Robert (ricroscupshigh) | 539 comments Looking for a known item in the 'add book/author' search function has also collapsed. That, I think, is new...

Rainbowheart | 28553 comments Still broken!

Why on earth haven't the developers fixed this? It makes the site unusable.

message 13: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28553 comments Appears to be fixed!

Thank the gods, lol.

message 14: by Aleksander (new)

Aleksander | 129 comments seems to be better for sure, but I'm still having an issue getting tons of foreign titles recommended? seems to be a lot of Polish, but also Spanish and German (and notably, Hebrew??) and im really confused. I'll have the english version of a book recommended but then later it'll be a foreign version. Is this a related issue or something else?

message 15: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28553 comments What do you mean by recommended? Where are you seeing the foreign titles?

I did notice the bug seems to be *mostly* fixed, not totally fixed. Brit Bennett still has Le cœur battant de nos mères showing as the default edition for The Mothers.

Both on the side of the home page where its like "Because you liked ____" and in the actual recommendations page where you can look through suggestions based on your shelves

message 17: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 28553 comments Ah, thanks! I had never noticed that feature before, lol.

Rainbowheart | 28553 comments All seems fully back to normal now. *fingers crossed*
