I like how the story is being told (view spoiler)
One thing that is funny is that I am unintentionally reading 2 books at the same time that have a similar format of an older character retelling the past through writing.
This one and Gone Tonight are told in a similar way.
I may come back to this discussion later. I have the book, but can't read it right now. I'm in the middle of a couple of others. It sounds so good though! Looking forward to seeing what you think of it.

I've actually never read Sager. A few of his books have ended up on my TBR, but I haven't gotten to them yet. This will be my first.

I will probably finish this today because I need to know what's happening. lol
lol! Ok..haha. I'll get to it eventually, but I may push it down my TBR now. I'll have to see what the other ladies have to say about it.

I'm thinking 3.5 stars but idk if I'll round up or down yet. Still stewing on it.

I'm loving it so far

so far I'm hooked but still keeping my expectations in check lol

I guess I go with 3 stars. Was considering 4 because I loved the house and how it was like a character. I also liked how the information was rolled out.
my review
I did finally get around to reading this one. I had a hard time deciding between three and four stars. I found it to be a quick, entertaining read, but you had to suspend your disbelief a lot.

For reallll on the disbelief! 🤣

Yes, you might say something like, "Oh, come on!" at the end. lol Which was disappointing because it was otherwise so entertaining.

At seventeen, Lenora Hope
Hung her sister with a rope
Now reduced to a schoolyard chant, the Hope family murders shocked the Maine coast one bloody night in 1929. While most people assume seventeen-year-old Lenora was responsible, the police were never able to prove it. Other than her denial after the killings, she has never spoken publicly about that night, nor has she set foot outside Hope’s End, the cliffside mansion where the massacre occurred.
Stabbed her father with a knife
Took her mother’s happy life
It’s now 1983, and home-health aide Kit McDeere arrives at a decaying Hope’s End to care for Lenora after her previous nurse fled in the middle of the night. In her seventies and confined to a wheelchair, Lenora was rendered mute by a series of strokes and can only communicate with Kit by tapping out sentences on an old typewriter. One night, Lenora uses it to make a tantalizing offer—I want to tell you everything.
“It wasn’t me,” Lenora said
But she’s the only one not dead
As Kit helps Lenora write about the events leading to the Hope family massacre, it becomes clear there’s more to the tale than people know. But when new details about her predecessor’s departure come to light, Kit starts to suspect Lenora might not be telling the complete truth—and that the seemingly harmless woman in her care could be far more dangerous than she first thought.
