help with reading classics

I find it incredibly difficult to read classics or books with old english, Pride and Prejudice for instance. Does anyone have any tips?

I listen to audio and read the book at the same time. The narrator's pace helped me a lot in understanding the text.
I found that watching the movie and then reading the book helped. Because then going into the book I roughly knew the storyline and the names of the characters, so it made it an easy read. Also, I think reading it once and then reading it a second time helps develop a better understanding as well.
try annotating it! it makes the reading alot more engaging and you really have to think. its also a fun way to make sure that your mind isnt going anywhere, if you struggle with the difficult words! goodluck!!
If you'd like to take away more understanding (even though I do this, I still feel like it's cheating for some reason), you can try reading and then listen to a breakdown through a podcast or video explanation. I approach books and a lot of media that way. That way, I'm still reading and engaging with the piece, but I'm also learning about it, which further enriches my experience.
I had to listen to Pride and Prejudice and still found it very hard to understand as well.
I tried reading it in English, I found it very difficult. I mostly read in English but my only solution was to switch to Spanish, and it was so much better. Same thing with Emma.
If you see something that you’re a bit confused on, pause and reflect: what is the author trying to say here? What is the tone? What are the characters saying? How are they contributing to the mood? Language is sometimes difficult, but a bit of effort goes a long way :)
I would advise you to keep reading, and not stop, even if you don't understand most of it at first. I encountered the same problem initially but over time, I found myself adapting to each individual author's writing style and it felt like they themselves were conveying their witticism and humour directly to me, upto the point where you even start thinking and writing that way so yeah..
