Hi! Teamies :) I like the name and to be honest, I couldn't come up with anything better. How about you Emeli?
Alright Marauders, I wanted to let you know that I have a trip to Japan Sept 3rd - Sept 11th. I plan on having Wi-Fi and my iPad etc., so I shouldn't have a problem checking in. But I thought I would see if either one of you wanted to claim any particular monsters? I was hoping to line up a couple of books in advance for the long flights.
Thanks, Christine
Hi again! Sorry, I took an internet break this weekend. I have been busy this month with work and school being back in session and it's got me exhausted. I'm excited to start a team challenge!
@Christine: I am happy to play this out however works best for you. I found that when I did this challenge last time with just a partner, it work really well for us to add books as we went, because we often could use a book for several different monsters. That being said, I know some people are better with upfront planning, and since I can go either way, I'll leave it up to you and Emeli.
I usually read around 5 books a week, but I tend to go a bit slower the second half of the year due to work, so it could be more like 3 books a week. I don't want to go claiming all over if you guys are slower readers. Should we do a claiming limit? Or just wing it? I'm happy to remove any claims if someone reads something that works for something I claimed, lol

Oh! I just looked through the Q&A, and this is food for thought. Namita said we can move books around within the month. So, that gives us some leeway for finding a more rare item in a book and moving things around!
I looked through the Weapons and didn't see anything that will be REALLY hard to find. Maybe the most challenging will be the Banshee, which specifies that the weapons are GOLD, so maybe we should fill that one first??
There are a lot of crossbows and swords, so we could maybe move those around a bit as we read for them?
Does either of you have a book you know you want to read that works for something? We could start with those.

I am wide open. I'll pick a couple of books tomorrow and tentatively fill them in on our worksheet and we can go from there. I am excited to start!
Yay! We have begun!
I will probably grab things as I find them! Have you heard from Emeli? I sent her a friend request, which she accepted, and a message but she didn't say anything back!

Hi Emeli! No problem-o! Happy to have you!
PS - I don't know what genres you all like to read, but I started this series thinking I would just read the first and maybe use the next books for this challenge.... and I flew through it and it had TONS of weapons AND monsters. So far throughout the series I've had Cyclops, Selki, Basilisk, Minotaur, and maybe more!
Of Flesh & Bone Series

Hi Emeli! Thanks for the info Ashley. I think I actually have the first book in that series somewhere. I'll take a look for it.
I made another tab on the spreadsheet with a list of the weapons, so we could see them easier, and a section to add in what we have found in a book so far (as we're reading it), in case we have multiple options!
Emeli! Your book for garlic isn't listed on the SS! I condensed your quote, since it was running into the Book column, but there wasn't one listed :)
Christine! I hope your trip was great! :)
Let me know if you need me to move some books around. I don't know what you read while you were on vacation, but if you need a spot I took, I have some other options for most of them.

A Boggart is a shape-shifting creature that will assume the form of whatever most frightens the person who encounters it. Nobody knows what a Boggart looks like if nobody is there to see it, although it continues to exist, usually giving evidence of its presence by rattling, shaking or scratching the object in which it is hiding. Boggarts particularly like confined spaces, but may also be found lurking in woods and around shadowy corners.
The spell that defeats a Boggart can be tricky, because it involves making the creature into a figure of fun, so that fear can be dispelled in amusement.
1. Read a book that is MPG Humor
2. Read a book where the MC laughs
3. Read a book with Author's initials in HUMOR
4. Read a book where a character thinks they are funny but they really aren't!
Books must be read for this Bonus Monster and checked in before continuing with your regular monsters!
You have until Saturday, September 16th 11:59 pm (Your time zone)
Thank you, I had a great trip :)I have a book for the Boggart and started to add it to the spread sheet. I will have it done tonight or tomorrow. As long as we need to finish Boggart first, I will work on adding my vacation books tomorrow.
For Boggart I am using task 3. Read a book with Author's initials in HUMOR.
My book is Tell Her Story by Margot Hunt. It is an audio book. I did the page conversation and here is the math:
252 mins = 172 x 150 Words = 25,800 words divided by 250 = 103.2 pages. If my math looks wrong, let me know. I have a back up book. Thank you!
I have this book The Fine Print!
MC Zahra does this: "The seriousness of his voice has me curling over and laughing."

Christine! Did you have books you read on vacation? I don't want to take anything you might have already read?!
Hey Ashley - I started to add stuff and I don't have anything specific that I need to use anywhere in particular, except Golem, and I already entered that book on the spreadsheet.Go crazy!

An imp is a European mythological being similar to a fairy or demon, frequently described in folklore and superstition. The word may perhaps derive from the term ympe, used to denote a young grafted tree.
Imps in general are susceptible to the effects of Spirit.
1. Read a book with a ghost in the story
2. MC can see and talk to ghosts
3. Title starts with any of the letters from SPIRIT.
4. Read a book where a séance is performed

Thanks Emeli!Ashley - you have a book to use? Otherwise I can find something quick. I am off work today and could find something to finish in a day. I'm running my sister to work and will find something as soon as I get home. I'm sure I could use it in another spot if you complete one also :)
I've have just informed a reserve player, Jesa to join you.
I'll check back to see if she has checked in and then will update your SS!

The redcap is a type of malevolent, murderous goblin found in Border folklore. He is said to inhabit ruined castles along the Anglo-Scottish border, especially those that were the scenes of tyranny or wicked deeds and is known for soaking his cap in the blood of his victims. He is also known as Redcomb and Bloody Cap.
Redcaps had a set of superstitions intricately interweaving with one another. In particular, they believed even numbers were unlucky, and thus would only carry odd numbers of coins and formed groups with an odd number of members.
1. Read a book with a number in the title
2. Read a book with a castle on the cover
3. Read a book with a red cover
4. Read a book with a hat/cap on the cover
