Sara | 6 comments Hello everyone!

My name is Sara, and I am an avid reader of fiction, usually Christian fiction. When I’m not reading Christian fiction, I’m reading novels from the 1960’s and 1970’s. I love romantic suspense, and British gothic historical fiction. I’m also into Amish fiction, just because!

I hope to become a Christian author someday, when I have the time to pursue such a venture. I’ve developed plots for a big series, but when I think about sitting down to write, I feel very ambivalent, and my mind blocks up. Any advice from authors on how to start writing is appreciated.

I so look forward to discussing one of my favorite topics, fiction, with you all!

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 104 comments Hello Sara, welcome to this group. I'm interested to see that one day you'd like to become an author - a Christian author.

I know that feeling! There came a time when I knew I just had to start writing and now I have six novels written - that might happen to you at some time. I've written two time travels (one where they go back to the 1960s) and a historical trilogy set in England and a contemporary thriller. I also have written a book of short stories and perhaps that is how you could kick-start your writing?

I wish you a fruitful time as a novelist.

Hi Anna,

I really appreciate your encouragement! Actually, I do have a couple short story ideas, so that would probably be a good place to start!

Time travel has always been a fascinating subject for me, and I love time-travel novels! When your books become available at my library, I will definitely read! I hope it's soon! I hope God blesses you in your writing career.

Hello Otishia,
Nice to meet you as well. Thanks for sharing your app with me. I will check it out. It's always nice to have spiritual encouragement. Sometimes walking in faith is hard, and encouragement is appreciated.

Otishia Emmens (teworksvoices) | 58 comments You're welcome Sara.

I agree, this faith journey is definitely not for the faint of heart however, as believers in Christ, we can take heart knowing that God loves us and will always send help when we need it.

I hope you find encouragement in the app if it speaks to your heart.

Sandra Barker | 29 comments Hi Sara, I would also like to encourage you. I think the advice to begin with a short story is a very good idea. When I began writing several decades ago, I began with a newspaper article and then it continued to grow and I began writing a book and once I finished it, I felt like I could write anything! The main thing is, you just need to start writing and as you do, it will become more natural to you and, chances are, your passion for it will grow too. I have 15 self-published books on Amazon, just write "Sandra Julian Barker" in the search box. You can do it too! You just need to begin - one sentence at a time (: May God bless and encourage your heart!!

Unfortunately, I don't think my books will be in US libraries. I live in the UK. Most of my sales are through Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/stores/Anna-Fa...

You will see that Amazon draw up an author page for you - I didn't have to do anything. It will be worth your while, maybe, to investigate Amazon as a pathway for producing and selling your books.

My paperbacks are also available in some bookstores, I know which ones in the UK but I don't know about the US ones.

Thank you, Sandra, for your encouraging and comforting advice! I have a passion for the series I want to write, and am excited about it, but I think that getting my feet wet with a short story is just what I need.

I will check you out on Amazon! Thanks again.

Thanks for your advice about Amazon! I will definitely look into the site as a way of selling fiction.

I will check you out on Amazon. Thanks for taking the time to give good advice. Best of luck with your writing and publishing!

I Anna,
I clicked the link to your Amazon page, but said something like "page not found." So I searched for you, and found this link:
https://www.amazon.com/stores/Anna-Fa...

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 104 comments Hah! How strange about the "page not found". However, your search came up with exactly the same page!

You can see that Amazon do a good job for their authors. The picture of the cat on the cover is my book of short stories.

Hi Sara,
My advice is don't sit down to write lol. Ease into it. Make it a treat to yourself. Settle in however you want to feel. At the park? In your favorite chair? You pick. Then write whatever you are led to write. A description. A conversation. Just flow and have fun. Let enjoyment be the habit. Just begin. No formality needed. Blessings!
