Joao Baptista | 82 comments Please merge these duplicates. I cannot do it because the edition to be delected was shelved more than 5 times.

Duplicate edition: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9...

Actual edition: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8...

Thanks.

Joao Baptista | 82 comments Hello,
Opening the duplicate edition, it is still public.
Can you take a look at it, please?

David Raz (davidraz) | 13314 comments The duplicate edition is not public, it was deleted on Jul 17, 2023 06:34AM (#560196615).
I can't share the link here because sharing edit links is frowned upon. When you edit the edition, note the edition ID and note if it has an ISBN.
If you still think the duplicate edition is public, please state the exact steps you are taking so I can try to reproduce it.

Joao Baptista | 82 comments Hello
In the past, after merging a duplicate edition, switching its status to “deleted”, that edition was not returned in search results for the book editions, but I could have it displayed if I followed a direct link to it.
What I did, in this case, was to click in the link of the “duplicate edition”, which had the ID of the duplicate edition (98576891). Although in the address bar the URL showed the ID 98576891, what was seeing in the screen was the actual edition (with the ISBN and all other data). But when I clicked in the “Edit book details”, the URL switched to the actual edition ID (83776354) and what showed in the screen was the edit page of the actual edition. So, even with a direct link to the duplicate edition (now delected) I could not access it and its edit details page.
If I remember well, sometime in the past that was not how it worked, but the the issue is now clear.
Best regards,
João

David Raz (davidraz) | 13314 comments So to summarize, the deleted edition was handled correctly, and what you are doing is editing the current edition, which is public as it should be. Please change the title of the thread, so other superlibrarians will not waste time coming here again.

Hint: You can edit the deleted edition by manually creating an edit URL. If you're not sure how to do this, I can provide more details or you can try it as an exercise.
