This book is "meta" in that the purported author, Ernest Cunningham, is a writer of books on How to Write Mysteries. He talks to the reader throughout about how he is following the rules from the Golden Age of mysteries. There is a lot of humor, although much of it is dark, as you could assume from the title. I'm sure Stevenson had great fun writing this, and it was a quick read.

I found this one enjoyable and quite clever at some points though only half of my bookclub agreed lol The others found it boring...?!?!??????

Robin P | 5806 comments Well, sometimes I thought it was a bit too clever/cute. But it was still entertaining. I'm not sure I totally followed the final reveal of how all the different parts of the crimes fit together but I don't think it matters.

The writer is one half of a comedian duo... so I think this one is more for the entertaining value.
