I loved all the references to classic mysteries - this one is a 'locked room' mystery and I believe there's a second book with a Murder on the Orient Express vibeI found this one enjoyable and quite clever at some points though only half of my bookclub agreed lol The others found it boring...?!?!??????
Well, sometimes I thought it was a bit too clever/cute. But it was still entertaining. I'm not sure I totally followed the final reveal of how all the different parts of the crimes fit together but I don't think it matters.

This book is "meta" in that the purported author, Ernest Cunningham, is a writer of books on How to Write Mysteries. He talks to the reader throughout about how he is following the rules from the Golden Age of mysteries. There is a lot of humor, although much of it is dark, as you could assume from the title. I'm sure Stevenson had great fun writing this, and it was a quick read.
