Carly Rheilan | 29 comments I was writing my review of The Very Dead of Winter by Miles WatsonThe Very Dead of Winter: A Sinner's Cross Novel. I DEFINITELY DEFINITELY DEFINITELY HAD NOT POSTED IT YET.
But then, midway through writing, I got a notice saying that the author liked my review!
I immediately checked in case I had somehow inadvertently clicked "post" and I had not. It had been saved in draft on the server, but was not posted.
I contacted the author about it, and he confirmed, having now seen the final draft which I HAD posted, that what he had initially seen and "liked" was not the final version.
HOw can this happen? Surely no review should be visible, even to the author, before it is posted??????

I will never again draft a review directly onto Goodreads - I will finalise it somewhere else and then cut and paste.

But this should not happen. Please forward this to your technical people so that they can look into it.

Scott | 8575 comments I've never heard of this happening before but my best guess is that you entered some kind of temporal anomaly. Such things are outside of librarians' purview so you should contact support:

If I click on a star rating and then proceed to write my review, I will occasionally also get 'likes' before I post my review. I thought it was just friends who liked my rating and had not seen my review yet.

So now when writing my review I wait with giving a rating until I have finished and am about to post.

Mesembryanthemum | 195 comments It recently happened to me, too. I was shocked when someone "liked" a review that I had not posted (only drafted, then left in an open tab to finish later). It was embarrassing to realize that everyone could see my badly written draft review. I didn't capture any details, so I didn't report it to GR support at the time.

But I also like Scott's explanation better. If it happens again, I'll quickly buy some lottery tickets, or something.
