R5: SS Once Upon a Nine (9)

Read 29th March 2015
★★1/2
Reading this I have discovered it is possible to like and hate a book at the same time. I liked the general storyline and most of the characters, in particular Doug the Imp. I preferred the pairing of Doug and Zach to Sable and Chris.
What I hated about it is that Chris is one of those truly annoying characters, he just grates on my nerves. I also have major problems with the way the story is set out. It is told in the form of numbered case notes and jumps around in random time frames.
I am not sure if I will read any more of this series or not, I did like the storyline but the style and Chris are very off-putting.
Week 2, Spot 14
Book:
Flight of the Sparrow: A Novel of Early America by Amy Belding Brown (standalone)
Date finished: 3/30/15
Rating: ♥♥
Review: This is the story of a Puritan woman in an early American settlement who is taken captive by Indians who attack her village. It was nice to see how Mary (the mc) changed her views of Indians after living with them, but I didn't really like her character, so it made it hard to like the book. It was okay, but it was a bit depressing to read because 90% of the people were jerks. I wish things ended more happily, but I guess that's not how things ended in reality since this is based on real people.

I'm glad you read this one, Mary! Partials has been on my TBR list for a while and I don't even remember how I heard about it because I don't know anyone who has read it! So I'm glad to hear that it's good!!

#2 in Transplanted Tales"
I really liked that one. I still have book 4 to read.

★★★
Read 4th April 2015
It was nice to get back to the team after the tragedy of the last book. The story continues with an investigation of missing children from a local school.
The relationship between Sam and Bo moves forward in this one as does the storyline. I am looking forward to learning more about what they are dealing with. I am enjoying this series and will read the rest.

Second in this fun fractured fairy tale series and another good one. In this, we meet Lavender who is a fairy godmother gone wrong. She ends up in a place where Fractured Tales go to hide out and meets up with Seth Wolf. The dialogue is amusing, the characters quirky enough to be fun but not overly so and the action is fast paced. There a few places that bog down occasionally but overall, it's a really fun read. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Hi Team, just checking in. I'll be posting my review tonight.

Book read:
The Weed That Strings the Hangman's Bag by Alan Bradley, Book #2
Date finished: 04/09/15

Review: Eleven-year-old Flavia is an interesting character (or maybe I just don't remember what it was like to be 11), and she is back in the lab conducting her experiments and playing "chemistry-related" pranks on her sisters. A famous puppeteer and his assistant come to Bishop's Keep, and Flavia is excited to see the show. But in the grand finale, the puppeteer drops to the stage, dead. Of course, Flavia is on the case! So far, this series is just middle of the road for me. It's funny to see what Flavia's chemical experiments are really for, so that is entertaining. But I don't know if I want to spend time wading through any more of these books.

What a great POV story I loved reading about Landon and what he went through in his life. I kind of wish that we got his POV first. He is a great character that had a rough life.

Read a 2 or 8 Alternate is Done Shelf https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...

Jess Alternate Done Shelf Page 3 Outlander Review
Leslie #2 in a series An Unwilling Bride Review

Talia Alternate Done Shelf page 3 Shadow Kiss Review

I love that series although I still haven't read the latest one I got it on release day and because there are such long gaps between books I haven't read it yet.
There was so much choice on the done shelf but I am going with a second in series I am reading for another challenge

Book 2 Romano and Albright
★★★★
Finished 11th April 2015
If you are looking for a serious mystery then don't bother reading this but if you want some light hearted and ridiculous slap stick then this is for you. It continues 6 weeks on from book 1 with Dan and Caesar still together and Caesar being his usual trouble magnet self.
The story is a fun, easy read, Dan and Caesar are likeable and Ce's friends and family add nicely to the chaos. It pretty hot in places with the boys' love of sex in public places. I hope the author writes more of this series.

Review:
While I loved Hopeless Losing hope was just the story from his POV I wasn't as obsessed with Holder as everyone else was because I adored Sky. I did love reading the letters from him to his sister. Those were my favorite parts.
